Will car pass MOT with broken wing mirror?
Help!
my car has a broken wing mirror - on drivers side. The glass is broken, the very end is "flapping" in the breeze a little but it all still attached.
The black plastic is also smashed - but this is cosmetic.
What do you think - will it pass?
I am bidding on a replacement mirror on eBay. but bid doesn't finish until tomorrow evening and car is being serviced/MOT'ed on monday. (It was later next week but I had to bring it forward due to various other commitments)
and before anyone starts with the girly driver comments - it got smashed when someone coming the opposite meandered over the central white line (guess i should be grateful he/she didn't do more damage!)

If it has jagged edges it will fail - can't you remove it altogether?
Get a cheap self adhesive mirror glass to stick in just for the test.0 -
thats probably the best plan, thanks=====================================

YOU CANNOT REMOVE IT. You are required to have a minimum of an internal and drivers side rearview mirror. If it were the passenger side you could remove it but it isn't. As mentioned, a stick on one is the best solution.0

The MoT Manual says you have to have either a external offside mirror or an external nearside mirror or an internal mirror. Any mirrors above this requirement are not tested.

The drivers door mirror - the damaged one - is mandatory. You then can either have an internal mirror or a passenger side one but there must be a drivers one.0 -
You don't have to have a door mirror. The wing mirror (with the replacement glass) is OK.0

For a car you need either a drivers side mirror or an interior mirror. For a goods vehicle you must have a drivers side mirror and either a passenger side mirror or an interior mirror.0

That link to the MOT manual reads differentlyObligatory mirrors area.
an exterior mirror fitted to the offside (right-hand side when seated in the driver's seat),
or
b. an exterior mirror fitted to the nearside (left-hand side when seated in the driver's seat),
or
c. an interior mirror

and then it says
all passenger vehicles first used on or after 1 August 1978 (not being a minibus as above), must have two mirrors, one of which must be option 'a'.

So drivers side + one of the others is required.
