For those who are worried about being separated from their OH on the flight - I have flown dozens of times with friends and OH on airlines ranging from Emirates and Qantas to Ryanair and easyJet - and have never once been separated from them on even the most packed flights. And I've never paid for SB. It is a big fat waste of money and any MSEer worth their salt should not pay it! There endeth the lesson.
you've been extremely lucky then . certainly when you've flown on the LCC you must have got there nice and early ,as on the 'packed' flights the last 10 or 15 people are normally dotted around the plane when i've flown .
if the strategy is to get to the airport more than an hour earlier than me then i'll take the hit on the money for speedy boarding.0 -
This is MSE, the answer should be NO0

For business travel I book all the extras (since I don;t have to pay) and it is usually short-haul flights. For personal travel (holidays) I do my best to avoid airlines that treat you like cattle (although that is getting harder) ... it is not necessarily the airlines fault, it is the mentality of the passengers that for some reason seem to think the aircraft might leave without them .. these are often the same people standing as close as possible to the baggage carousel thinking their bag will come off quicker.

I thought you said that you went straight to the top of the check-in queue, which is not a feature of speedy boarding (unless you check in online, which you can do without SB).Get to 119lbs! 1/2/09: 135.6lbs 1/5/11: 145.8lbs 30/3/13 150lbs 22/2/14 137lbs 2/6/14 128lbs 29/8/14 124lbs 2/6/17 126lbs
