Lost all emails in Inbox

Opened up an email today and this has made all emails (a couple of hundred) in my Inbox disappear. Not in Outbox, Drafts etc.. All other emails in other folders are there but the folders are now in a different order. This email came in the other day and wasn't a Trojan. It did have an attached word file but was fine when first opened up but when opened up tonight, they have all gone!

It now says '. To Download this message , Message has not been downloaded, Outlook Express has not yet downloaded this message. Click Here _ Press Space'.

Any ideas? Have I got a Virus? Have ran Spyware can't find anything and can't find the emails. Everthing else including Outlook Express, seems to be working fine.

Hi - It does sound very sus to be honest. Everything was ok before the word attach was received. Have you ran a virus scan? I'm not sure if you'll be able to recover your lost emails, unless you are on XP perhaps you could do a "system restore" to before this email was received with the attach?

Virus scan revealed nothing. Also used both Adaware and Spybot. Is there any free anti virus spyware just for emails?, as I haven't sent any emails out and I am not sure whether to send any now.

Oh! Just one more thing, which maybe the reason why? My other half pulled out the USB Netgear Wireless Adapter (MA111) before closing down Outlook Express/Internet Explorer and the Netgear Router! Would this be the cause?

I would use http://free.grisoft.com/doc/1 for antivirus unless youve got antivirus that scans email already, and did you turn off system restore when you ran adaware and update the definitions?

Hi, thanks for that, just used grisoft.com and it hasn't found any viruses. Without sounding thick, which when it comes to computers I am!! (bring back the abacus!!) Where/How/Why etc do I turn off the system restore? Which obviously I didn't (or I don't know I have) when running spyware.

If the AVG anti-virus check has found no viruses, then should I be OK to send any emails?

    Cheers

Start, Run,type msconfig, Then choose system restore tab.

Oh yes and did you run AVG in safe mode?

Aha! now I know what you mean. Unfortunately, the answers to both is no, I did not turn off the system restore and I didn't run in safe mode. So, I suspect that I will not be able to save any emails. It's not the end of the world. I am more bothered that I have a virus in my laptop and passing on to other PC's via email. Should I still run AVG in safe mode or won't it matter now?

Run it in safe mode defo, as that will clean yer PC and put your mind at rest
not forgetting by default AVG will scan outgoing mail...

But if your not too sure if it does do this.

Right hand click AVG Icon near the PC clock, Launch AVG control Centre
double click email scanner then configure and see if tick is in Scan outbound email.

Dont forget if sending large files untick this option or your mail server will time out
as it wont see any incoming info as AVG scans the whole email then sends.

Cheers Mr Skint, done all that, so should be OK now. Just one more question...
On Properties/Logging/Creat New Log File. I have clicked 'When File Size Reaches' at the moment the setting is zero, Is this setting, for size of email file? If so, any recommendations?
