I am not very good at techie matters so please forgive me if this is a silly question.
The right hand side of my task bar has lots of icons, and it appears that my Laptop wont do anything until thse are all loaded on. Im thinking that thse are programs tat are automatically loaded up when I switch on, and many of them are not needed (real player, quick time, Nokia PC suite, and other stuff)
Am I right in this assumption? If so, how do I stop it? It is taking about 15 mins from switching on before I can load up the internet.
Thanks, Lally

if you download ace utilities from www.acelogix.com it has a start-up manager where you can untick items
you can also use spybot from
http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/
if you turn on "advanced mode" it also has a start-up manager and identifies what most of them are...if you are not sure what a particular item is then "google" it to see what it isEx forum ambassador

Just one little thing, Have you defragged youyr machine? Start, All Programs
Accesories, System Tools, Disk Defragmenter.0 -
Yep, defragmented it last week.
I had 44 programs in the list, I de-selected 11 of them. A lot of the other ones Im not sure of so Im afraid to touch them. Strange, in that a lot of the ones I was expecting to be in the list are not there! (eg Windows Messenger, Real Player, Quicktime....)0 -
Iwill say Real Player is a bit of a crap program to say the least, I would
get shot of that and use Real Alternative http://www.free-codecs.com/download/Real_Alternative.htm.
Oh yeah and maybe a scandisk.
Double Click My Computer Icon, Right hand Click (C:\) Choose Properties
Tools Tab, Check Now, put the 2 ticks in, then Start, Now on the restart of the PC
a scandisk will perform.0 -

Will it do this every time? Or just the next time I restart?0 -
Just the once.......
Unless youve got major issues with the registry, Sounds like you havent though. Its like the old checkdisk in 98 but they hid it in XP0
