BT Payment Charges

I've just looked at our bt bill and can't believe we are being charged 4.50 everytime we get our bill cause we don't pay by DD!!! Other half normally pays the bills and he says we've been paying it for ages. He doesn't want to go DD as he likes to have control over when we pay our bill but 18 is a rip off surely???

he thought there was something going on about being penalised for not paying by dd?

I don't pay it and they don't take the direct debit.

Yes I ticked the direct debit box but pay using online banking and have been for over a year now.

You just have to make sure you have paid it before the direct debit will be called for.

    Also works with payment cards.

No bill to pay no direct debit to be used.

ooh now thats a clever idea, so i sign up for DD then just pay my bill as soon as i get it and they WON'T even attempt to take any money?

    Hi suzynick
If youre happy to pay the bill in full as soon as you receive it, why are you not happy to have an automatic payment do the same thing for you?
Go onto monthly whole bill direct debit, you will get a statement every month, and the full amount will be taken by direct debit 10 working days after the billing date. This will be the exact amount of the monthly bill, nothing more, nothing less.

I'm happy, other half isn't! He likes to have 'control' over things and prefers to pay by cheque or over the phone after the bill has come and he's happy with it. I get paid different times of the month as well. think after talking to him about it y/day though he may change to DD....reluctantly I might add!

You still get plenty of time after the bill arrives before the DD is taken. Thus leaving you (or your husband) plenty of time to study the bill and make any queries.

If you sign up to the online account they will send you an Email about two weeks before bill is due, that is when I pay my monthly bill.

Someone was paying in advance so there was never any bill to pay but I am not sure how that worked out in the end.

If you are monthly billing paying two months first the one month then every month after that is not that much to pay and would give you four weeks to pay the next bill.
