  • The points you have made are fair but now I am even more disgusted about the higher amounts for going overdrawn. I think the charges are disgusting and if you think they are fair then you are seriously deluded. The 24hr thing of getting money back into account is good but the even higher service fees are a con. I can believe you actually think you are now getting a better service. I dont really go overdrawn but it is the principle and the fact that a big company like Lloyds think they can flout the law.

I was in financial difficulty not long ago due to my partner leaving, I have now managed to get myself back on track. But I used to be charged £90.00 per month sometimes because I went overdrawn by silly amounts, and 9 times out of 10 I also paid money in the same day but I was still charged. The service they offer now means that people are aware they won't be changed until 3.30pm the day they go overdrawn allowing you enough time to pay money into your account.

At the end of they day they won't give you something for nothing. Not only that but Lloyds are one of the best banks for their policy on charges, Lloyds don't charge you if you go over your unauthorised overdraft because of their charges or any bill paid to them, however all of the other big banks do, there are more people out there struggling because of them than their are because of Lloyds tsb.

SORRY, But I have to ask cml2508, do you work for LLoyds cause if you read through this and other forums LLoyds rank as one of the worst banks for charging and NOT repaying .

"Lloyds don't charge you if you go over your unauthorised overdraft because of their charges or any bill paid to them, however all of the other big banks do"

They do charge you for going over your limit because of their charges or a bill paid to them. I know cause they've done it to me, so if they don't charge you then you're very lucky

In May 2006 my husband died after a long illness, Knowing that he was dying and that because of this I would be in extreme financial hardship I contacted LLoyds and asked for help, they told me to contact them again after he had died. So, he died on a Thursday and on the following Monday I went into my branch to explain that my money, We were living on benefits due to his illness and me having to give up work to look after him, was going to go down rapidly and that I was going to struggle with my finances and the only help they gave me was to tell me to cancel all of my DDs and SOs.

Over the years 2001-2007 they charged me over £4500 pounds in charges and although I am willing to admit that initially they were my fault I do not agree that thier charges are just.Had the first charges I received not been SO high I would not be in the position I'm in now.
I would be happy to pay £2.50 for each time I went over my limit but feel that £30 in extortionate and however they dress it up their new charges are no better than their old ones.

If They paid me back what they have over charged me I wouldn't be at risk of losing my home due to the fact that Housing benefit massively overpaid me after my husband died by taking 3.5 months to sort out my new claim and are now taking it back at such a high rate (since January 2008) and I am now having to pay over 1/4 of my monthly income on rent alone.

Sorry for the rant but I get angry when people think that these charges are fair they are not!
:rotfl: Surely life can't get any worse it has to only get better from hear on out :j

  • I have a Lloyd's account which i also use once or twice a year. However I get a statement once a year so in fact that they never send monthly statements may be a point to argue as well.

In regards to the following remark, i got also charged 6 GBP for going 25 OD. I find it a joke since unless my parents hadn't opened the post it would have been much larger. The letter would have taken 10 days to Spain. I had to use my Lloyd's account to book an easyjet flight, as once again my Citibank was blocked for stupid security.

In fairness if you are going overdrawn that badly you are incurring fees all the time for high amounts, you need to seek financial advise and just use a basic bank account so there is no danger of you paying out for going over your limit.

So how do i change my classic account to basic?

PS I did ask Lloyd's why they accepted the charge if they knew if would make me overdrawn - they had no response. In addition I asked if I could credit my account with another debit card. No because it would be fraudulantly to debit from another bank account.

Link to my thread about Lloyds problems and addresses.

Also seems lloyds are very good and not sending statements. they have managed to not set up the statement correctly as requested on 4 out of the 5 accounts me and OH have.

    Haymans any update?

    Update.

Lloyds replied to basically tell me to !!!!!! off. They said they would investigate the issue of having the wrong address and not receiving statements but that the charges stand.

They did send me the list of charges for the last six year and have said I have to pursue it through the courts blah blah etc!

So that's what we're going to do.

Before I send off the first letter I just want to check what we can claim and what we can't. The list of charges is quite confusing

    Listed as "Fee" there is:
    Account Charge

    Listed as "Charge" there is:
    O/Draft Interest
    O/Draft Usuage Fee
    Unpaid D/D
    Unpaid S/O
    Unpaid Personal LN
    O/Draft Excess Fee

Which of these should we claim for? What should I do next?!

Ah don't worry I've read Martin's guidelines. So we will claim for Unpaid DD, Unpaid S/O, Unpaid Personal LN, O/Draft Excess Fee.

That's over £1,400 over six years.

They should've just given me the £500ish we asked for.
  • Good luck and let us know how you get on. Hope you get every penny!

    hi haymans

may i suggest you take it to the financial ombudsman not court. they have more felxability than court. be sure to mark you complaint bank error not bank charges. give them the story in chronological order so they dont just read bank charges and pop it into bank charges on hold pile.

    good luck
