Disappointed with Charity Choices
I saw the vote for charities at
http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/#vote
I am new to this site so I do not know how these get chosen but I would like to nominate a different charity for future consideration. It is the National Autistic Society (www.nas.org.uk) .
The NAS is not a large charity, you won't see it advertising on TV nor will you see it sharing mail lists.
What it DOES do is
"champion the rights and interests of all people with autism and aim to provide individuals with autism and their families with help, support and services that they can access, trust and rely upon and which can make a positive difference to their lives."
Autism and Aspergers Syndrome affect more than 587,000 people (more than 1 in 100) in the UK along with 2 million family members.
The general public has very little understanding of Autism, they tend to associate Autism with Autistic Savants as seen in the film Rain Man. The reality is a complex and cruel disability that is life long, 75% of adults with Autism are unable to get work and the NAS is campaigning to improve things at http://www.think-differently.org.uk/
The NAS helps families who usually have to fight to get their disabled kids the services they need in Education, Health and Social Services.
They continue to help families and those affected by Autism and Aspergers Syndrome. If this site does decide to select the NAS as one of it's chosen charities please support it, meanwhile You can make a donation by calling 08702 334040 or visiting http://www.nas.org.uk/donateonline/ Alternatively you can become a NAS member at http://www.nas.org.uk/nas/jsp/polopoly.jsp?d=722
The money raised will support NAS vital work throughout the UK.
Many thanks for your support.

Stick around Zappo, next year you will get the chance to nominate a charity for the Long List. And it was a very long list ...Signature removed for peace of mind0

It ran to 36 pages before it was closed. http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=9650170

You say the National Autistic Society is not a large charity, I looked them up on the Charity Commission website and their income last year was £81m. I don't know about you, but I don't call that small!0
