I would keep a plasma upright because it has a heavy pane of glass in it. It's certainly not a rule that it must be kept upright.

As for which way up to transport it, I really can't imagine it would make too much difference.

    what about lcd's?

Plasma tvs have gas in them Lcds dont. Chances are if your box gets laid flat something will get put on top of it. If you want to make sure that it stays upright you need to strap it upright on a pallet which will add to the weight and cost more but it will be worth it.

LCDs don't have glass in them, so they're not as fragile as plasmas. Laying them flat won't harm them (just use some common sense and don't put your shopping on top of them).

Plasma TVs do have gas in them, but it won't leak out if they are laid flat. This is a myth Curry's and co are quite happy to perpetuate in order to get people to pay for home delivery services they don't need.

To lay it flat costs more. If the TVs were transported like this, they would not be able to stack one on top of the other. If they're transported upright, one box can sit on top of another without damaging the screen, so you can fit more in each lorry.

Putting it upright will not cost more but putting it on a pallet will add to the weight so will cost more. Couriers dont charge differently depending on which way up an item is, they will just shove it in the van any which way so supporting the item on a pallet means that no other items will be stacked on top of it.
