even if its in the original box?

Yes even if its in its box, plasma and lcd screens need to be kept upright, just like fridge freezers should be too! its all to do with the gas in them, i am sure if you google it someone will tell you in more depth.

good luck with it, and the slightest knock and the buyer will notice it too, better off delivering it your self and take a hit on the fuel costs

we had to pay currys and extra £40 for our 42" plasma screen to be delivered as my renault scenic was not big enough for it, and the guy delivering it told us it has to be kept upright, loads of people buy them then lay them flat in their cars and experience all sorts of problems with them!

Its the first thing the tv store asks when they get returned faulty "how did you get it home? upright or flat?? sir/madam"

LCD/Plasma TVs need to be transported upright because they're less likely to be physically damaged that way. If you look at how they're packed, they are generally held in place inside the box with some styrofoam at each end, so there's nothing to stop something damaging the screen if it were laid flat. Add that to the fact that the glass in plasmas is quite heavy and so could crack.

There's no gas in LCD TVs as far as I know, and the idea that gas will leak out of your plasma TV if it's not kept upright is a myth. There's nothing in a TV than will cause it to break if it's laid flat; it just needs to be done so carefully.

    I'm not surprised.

If I could get away with making up reasons for people to give me £40, I might be tempted myself. ;)

To which I'd reply, "on second thoughts, I think I'll get someone who knows something about TVs to repair it".

i bought a 40inch lcd from currys in shopping centre and put it in the boot over the back seats and drove it for over 23 miles and when i opened it and turned it on i didnt see damages.

so the upright rule only applies to plasmas and not lcds?

when i drove the tv back it wasnt completely flat as the back seats folded gave it a above slight angle you know.

if its ok to put lcd's flat when transporting, do you put the front side of the tv flat or the backside of the tv flat?

I would keep a plasma upright because it has a heavy pane of glass in it. It's certainly not a rule that it must be kept upright.

As for which way up to transport it, I really can't imagine it would make too much difference.

on standard courier services the maximum volumetric size is around 30KG (length x height x wideth/4000)

If your TV comes to more than that its going to cost close to £30 when you factor in insurance.

I think the formula is length x height x width/6000 with dimensions in cm.
