I can confirm that Barclays use Experian to credit check you on Bank accounts. When you apply on the internet they use the Equifax ID service so you dont have to send documents (questions about your credit accounts when you opened them etc). They do not credit check information from Equifax. RBS/Mint check both experian and equifax. I have yet to find a bank that just uses equifax or callcredit...For everthing else there's mastercard.
For clampers there's Barclaycard.0 -
I have checked my credit report with all three agencies now, seemed a sensible thing to do for the sake of thoroughness. I have five credit/telecoms accounts posted, which are all reported on my Experian and Callcredit credit reports. Equifax didn't have the full set.
I checked Martin's league table of companies using each agency, and my accounts with Barclaycard, Nationwide, and Egg are reported on the report I have just recieved from Callcredit.
But Martin's league table says none of these companies use Callcredit, but they are all on my Callcredit credit report?
How can this be? Can someone explain? Thanks.Cheap is good but free is best!0 -
Read Martin's note in #2, it means that either company's policies have changed or someone was telling porkies when MSE originally put together the table0

HSBC must be using Experian too hence got rejected me too (got rejected for a loan too in August even though I bank with them for last 9 years). Got accepted on Norwich & Peterborough and Abbey (MBNA) cards - They must have used Equifax as I got a good Equifax record.
Just thought of sharing this with the board as it might help someone.
BTW, I am posting here for the first time, but I am not new to this forum or site - very useful/helpful site I must say.0 -

Hi, as well as the main 3 equifax, experian and call credit are there any other credit reference agencies out there? Does anybody know please?0

All these replies are very useful, however I need to add that the table information that Halifax use all three is correct, as this has caused a problem for me applying for a Mortgage as Experian and Call Credit had correct up to date information and Equifax had an account still showing as open and outstanding overdraft and another account with an incorrect balance like just like anniecave had said she had experienced.
My partner and I have decided to go to Nationwide now and try our luck with them as they say told us they only use Experian with whom I have a Excellent score and my partner has a good score with them with no out of date information. So we will see.0 -

According to HSBC they charge the bank for an immediate update and thats why they will not amend a fault and said I will have to wait for it to change with the monthly update?0 -
I can't speak for the UK but here in the US, Experian keeps getting into boiling hot water for selling data to convicted criminals and fugitives. You can find the details on the experianwatch <dot> blogspot <dot> com website!
This is called a recipe for harassment or identity theft made simple.
No company in its right mind should use Experian for anything!0
