This is probably going to sound really stupid but i have never had a contract before the mobile i have now!
My contract was an 18 month one that is supposed to come to an end in the middle of August - Do i need to giva any sort of notice or will they just automatically end the contract?
I don't want to be with Virgin once my contract ends so rely wouldn't like to be automatically put onto another contract because i haven't given any sort of notice!

Thanks for any help in advance!!

In theory you should not have to tell them but it is best to give them a quick ring to confirm. They might contact you to try and sell you another contract. Also make a point of cancelling any direct debit you have given them with your bank - do not assume they will cancel it automatically.

You DO have to tell them. With Virgin a phone call should suffice. Normally you need to give 30 days' notice with most networks, but Virgin is more forgiving. Don't ever cancel a direct debit until it's been confirmed and the final payment taken.

dial 789 on your virgin phone and you can cancel by giving one months notice (I did it this week), they confirmed it within a couple of hours by text message

As previous posters mentioned, you DO have to give 1 month notice. Best way is call on 789 from your Virgin Mobile or call 0800 0520837 from your Landline.

For cancelling you have 3 options.
    1) Just give 1 month notice your account will be closed at end of the contract.
    2) Move from Contract to Payasyougo.
    3) Ask for PAC code and move to a different network. Your account will be closed when you move to another network with your PAC.

Err, if you getting it from a shop, 16th August. If you're ordering online 13-14th August?

or what i just found out from them is you can arrange for your contract to swich to payg payable by direct debit when the 18 month one runs out, obviously you won;t use it to make calls so wld be without for few days, but you can still receive calls like normal. Then on first day it goes payg you can order your new phone. if you wanrt to port your number and your new provider needs to do this at point of sale then bear in mind that it takes virgin up to a week to get the number to you, so worth asking for it a week before contract due to expire.

It's impossible to say when the first DD would be taken. It would depend on where Orange were in their billing cycle at the point when they registered your details.
