School Uniform Rant!

DD is going up to senior school this year, so I have been buying little bit of uniform as I go along. It is the typical "one shop supplier" thing. I am happy to buy the polo shirts and sweatshirts with logo, as all the kids wear them and they look quite smart too.
I had got the PE kit from Asda, however (proper :money: ) As it was two shirts for £5 and two shorts for £4.50!! Popped into the "one shop supplier" to hear the sales assitant tell another parent that for children going up this year "its the law to have logo'd PE kit" Bearing in mind that each top is £16.75 and each pair of shorts is £9.75 and they require the kids to have two kits each!
Now I know its not law but how much can the school insist logo'd PE uniform can be worn!
PS: Sorry if wrong forum
PPS: Only school for the area, so don't get any option but to send children there (good job its a good school really)
PPPS: I have also emailed the head this question, however a week later he has not replied!

My DS's high school said this. I bought him the football shirt as it was a bit obvious, but the tracksuits etc were asda
He leaves in May, not had a problem yet!
My friends DD goes to a local catholic school who are completely OTT on uniform. Her trousers are £20 a pair and have a tiny tiny little label on them with the schools initials that actually cant be seen unless looked for. Friend bought her DD cheap trousers, identical to the school ones all except this tiny logo. School checked, ordered her DD into solitary confinement and sent my friend a rather nasty letter home.
Some schools will enforce the policy some wont. Trouble is, you dont find out until you get there.0 -

I think that's what I will do, send her in the Asda stuff and see what happens! Schools list given to new pupils says shirt (no mention of logo) however the parents one says logo shirt!:rotfl:Ahahah got my signature removed for claiming MSE thought it was too boring :rotfl:0 -

Its different with you having a DD, I know DS's school insisted on a logo'd football shirt, which is fair enough as they do play other schools in them. Quite what they wanted for girls I dont know as DD doesnt start there for another 12 months.
Id have a sneaky look at the logo shirt and find a lookalike0 -

Here's the sneaky thing, all the other years are in bog standard red polo shirts with logo on, the new ones are red with white piping on EVERY seam and ruddy great big logo on it. Interestingly, on her taster day the kids were all told that old and new logo'd stuff was ok! Now the plain red one is exactly the same as "old" PE top!:rotfl:Ahahah got my signature removed for claiming MSE thought it was too boring :rotfl:0 -

In that case I would go for a plain red polo and wait and seeP.E is once a week I imagine, and most P.E teachers are just happy the kids turned up with a kit lol I wouldnt buy it unless I really had to.
DD's school decided that summer shoes should not be ballet pumps. I bought DD a pair of crocs alice because I thought they would be cool. School were not too pleased but I explained they were probably the most sensible summer shoe out there.
Not only did school agree, but now half the girls have crocs lol
Chance it and see0 -
If your version looks like the old kit, the school probably will accept it as uniform is often passed down from older siblings/ cousins/ friends. My ds1's school is very strict on uniform but there are currently 3 versions of tracksuits around and all are ok.“the princess jumped from the tower & she learned that she could fly all along. she never needed those wings.”

I agree it is the shop's law!! 'Good' sales tactic that many parents won't argue with!
If the school want them to be in logo'd PE kit then they should make that very clear to parents imo. Then you have the chance to argue against it, if you wish.
They may prefer them all to wear it but you can be sure many children will not be wearing them, especially if this is the first year they are insisting on it.
I would not pay for the trousers, that's for sure! I think rugby/football tops are a bit different as they are often in school colours and it is more visible if they don't have them. If it's just plain sweatshirts but with a logo then I maybe wouldn't bother.0
