Renting - "no children" discrimination

Comments

  • You think these small children are going to be working, paying taxes, doctors, healthcare workers... others think they are going to be ASBO-d dole scrounging baby-machines.... ding dong round two....

Housing issues in this country probably are changing the demographic of those breeding but in what ways....

To be frank I don't care if they are potential mass murderers or florence nightingales, I make the choice not to have any of them and don't expect anyone to tell me different.

I have met many Dr's and medical staff. Some Dr come from privileged families. The vast majority in a major London uni are Asian by about 10:1. some of a one first year students already have Z3 BMW with personalized number plates, the rest seem to be well educated, generally have a good strong family background. Some are not wealthy, but I have not met a destitute one yet. I am not prejudiced against Asians, but generally do admire them for their tight family bond and support of each other.

Ps sorry I was out by 10 years on the 'Love Thy Neighbour' thing but it was before my time.

It is just a continuation of your inability to get your facts right.

Only spectacularly rivalled by yours.

Love Thy Neighbour ran until 1977 ie 31 years ago not 40.( Checked Wikipedia ). Next time you want to deride and give someone a public 'ticking off' on a forum you may want check your own facts first. YOUR facts were wrong on this occasion, not mine. :p

To the OP I agree with you and I've said all I want to on the subject without getting drawn into a petty tit for tat thing.
To Captain whatever, you are very amusing. Remind me of my Grampa. I have no doubt we'll meet again on other threads around the board. ;)
It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up !

But why should I give up when it all seems so stupid ?

I think based on the comments from landlords on this thread we can summarise by saying that allowing use of your countries housing stock to be dictated by the personal prejudices of private landlords is a very bad idea. But everyone knows that anyway, especially the government.

The BTL experiment hasnt worked, private landlords have been given the opportunity to take over previously socialised housing and have blown it spectacularly. The result has been an unsustainable rise in prices followed by a house price crash and a demographic crisis as large numbers of people demand a resolution from the state.

With the government dying to levy new taxes to shore up the black hole theyve created in the UK finances I woudnt be at all surprised if there arent some significant changes to the tax benefits surrounding renting out mortgaged premises soon.

This is not a good time to be relying on property for a stable income.

... private landlords have been given the opportunity to take over previously socialised housing and have blown it spectacularly. .....

'Given the opportunity' - Don't make me laugh, the government washed it hands of it and farmed the rest out to housing associations

There is a big difference between being a decent landlord, and offering a care in the community service. There is a post where a LL made her property accessible for a womans charity, then tenant did not pay and months later tenants daughter burnt the place down - think it on this site somewhere. Councils can afford this, but us small folk can't

Wait till you've had a few yourself love. You might feel differently when you've got a 2 month old with colic and a three year old that want to re-enact the entire script from 'Cars' in the garden. But in 25 years time both will be tax-payers who'll be paying for your bus pass so comfort yourself with that.;)

Ha ha... and her house is of a high 'spec' not suitable for young children you know.. but will rent it out to another young family to get even on the ones living next door to her for her declining quality of life.

LL are not the total baddies here, if its your property its your choice, I wouldn't have anyone TELL me who I had to rent my own property out to, like Capatain M I'd sooner leave the thing empty.

You may have no say in that matter very soon... the economy will take that decision right outta ya hands!
