British Gas Homecare

Now I am about to move into my new place and the boiler is on the fritz, we only get hot water when the heating is on as well.

I quite like the look of the homecare 200 package to cover boiler + radiators. Now what's the policy on 'pre existing medical conditions' as it were? Would I have to have and pay for an initial service + repair to fix the existing issue before I could get on Homecare?

Thanks for any info anyone can provide on this service or indeed any other similar service :)

    Yes their policy is that they will not agree to take on a system with an existing fault, or indeed is too old.

    However you have nothing to lose by applying for the package and they will look at the system. If it is a minor problem they might fix it on the spot and give you cover.(sounds like a problem with a valve in your case - although I ain't no plumber!!!)

    ok i will gve them a call. Can't book a service til after mid aug as my bf is away til then and he is a lazy student who can wait in for them lol!

    Been in this situation myself. They will bill you for repair and put you on cover for the future.
    If memory serves you do get the repair a bit cheaper if you are then signing up for the homecare contract.
    Many boilers are now sealed and maintenance free, the only thing that may go wrong is with the boiler electronics which can be replaced fairly easily.

    I had a problem with my boiler and when I phoned British gas to get them to come and do a one off repair they said I could join their Homecare package and have the boiler repaired with no additional cost.
    The only condition was that I had to be on the higher level (£49/month I think it was) and that I am in a contract for 1 year.
    A few months later I rang and managed to knock It down to £32/month.

    Not bad I thought as they have replaced around £800 worth of parts (not to mention the labour - at least 6 callouts).
    They couldn't pin point the fault so ended up replacing almost everything.
