I take my young nieces to Smollensky's on The Strand it is child friendly with kids menus. Highly recommended.
Also to get a bargain book via https://www.toptable.co.uk0 -
Been to Rainforest a couple of times. The kids will definitely like it, quite a large variety of choices in Menu (compared to TGI Friday). I would recommend it.0

Best restaurants for kids
by Alastair Duncan
So, you're out in town and you want to eat - only thing is you've got a couple of kids in tow. You can do better than a soggy sandwich and a greasy burger - try one of these restaurants where you'll find delicious food and a warm welcome.
Kids get stuck in at Yo!Sushi
Belgo Centraal, 50 Earlham Street, WC2 (020 7813 2233), plus branches. Even fussy young eaters can be appeased with a plate of frites, while you enjoy moules and Belgian beer. Two under-12s eat free from the Mini Belgo Menu for every adult ordering an à la carte main course. Also at Bierodrome.
Bank Aldwych, 1 Kingsway, WC2 (020 7379 9797). Won't compromise on what you eat? This fine dining house offers a Sunday-lunchtime menu for kids so you can tuck into roast sea bass, while they sample mini fishcakes.
Lemonia, 89 Regent's Park Road, NW1 (020 7586 7454). Established Greek that's mastered that European thing whereby the adoring waiters fawn over rather than sneer at younger clientele. Gorgeously simple, fresh food.
Smolenski's on the Strand, 105 The Strand, WC2 (020 7497 2101), plus branches. Even if diner-style Sunday lunch isn't to your taste, the classic American menu appeals to kids. And the Bloody Marys compensate...
Yo! Sushi, County Hall, 3B Belvedere Road, SE1 (020 7928 8871). On family Sundays, children measuring under 151cm eat free! And older/taller kids and accompanying adults each get a free purple plate when dining.
TGI Friday's, 25-29 Coventry Street, W1 (020 7839 6262). More burgers, fries, steaks and pop than you can shake a sugary stick at. It's not about you...0 -
Bank Aldwych 1 Westway. I think was recently voted the No-1 for kids restaurants in The London Times.0

Been to Rainforest Cafe. The atmosphere and animatronics are great - the kids will love it - but to be honest the food is not all that! You really are there just for the experience.
Up in London next week for half term. Was thinking of taking the kids to Planet Hollywood, but having read the reports on Smollenskys might try there. Has anyone tried both? Which do you prefer?
Thanks

I definitely recommend the Belgo in Covent Garden, and you MUST book - or you'll be waiting for hours!! The kids love this place - the fussy so and so's even had boar sausages with garlic mash and redcurrant jelly!!
loads of crayons to amuse them - big buckets of them - LOL
Planet Hollywood & Rainforest Cafe - =Blehhh!!! ick ick ick!!!
I would suggest the Hard Rock Cafe, but didn't that burn down a while ago??? - the original themed restaurant with a brilliant rock museum downstairs!!Noli nothis permittere te terere
