I had the same problem. I tried Sysadmin's solution, but that didn't work for me. Have just cleared cache and cookies, and that's worked.0

What shall i do now?
Upgrade to at least the latest version of 2 if you have lots of Firefox add ons, and if not go straight to 3.
I don't know what corrupted in my profile directory, but the file which holds my passwords ended up being 24Mb big, and by the time I spent messing around, it was easier to start with a clean slate!
