Home working - My Little Wrapper

I have just come across this franchise based company and it looks like a good idea but the start up costs seem very high. I just wondered if anyone has any experience of My Little Wrapper please?

I haven't looked at the site apart from a quick glamce and reading this paragraph
Who else wants to make people happy, earn good money, do it all from home, with total flexibility?

Forgetting about the chocolate, the above phrase screams SCAM at me.

"Who else wants to make................" is a phrase that many scam sites use. Usually the ones that are selling a sure fire way to make millions while you are asleep.

I can't see any self respecting web site using a phrase that is so associated with scams.

OK, the mini star pack costs £1,499

The chocolate bars are 35g and cost 36p each and the wrapper costs 3p

So each bar costs you 39p and if you have a markup of 100% that will make them 78p each. So you are "making" 39p per bar.

At that rate you would have to sell 3,844 bars just to get your money back.

Seems like an awful lot of chocolate to me! And I haven't included any extras you may have to pay for, like postage for the wrappers and chocolate bars.

They do say you don't have to buy the chocolate bars from them, but I wouldn't be surprised if you can't buy a chocolate bar from any other place that fits the size of wrappers they sell.

The actually idea sounds good, but if I was doing it I would look into getting the right paper and designing my own wrappers and using standard chocolate bars from the cash and carry.

All the info in the manuals seems to be info you can get free from many places, "how to open a bank account" and "how set up your email" etc.

All the rest of the stuff you should be able to get cheaper, after all they are getting it cheaper and making a profit selling it on to you.

Take a look at the high street and you see the likes of McDonalds, Subway, Burger King, Pizza Hut, Dominoes etc. (I know they exist but I can't think of any famous franchises outside of food)

The key thing these companies have in common is there's nothing about these businesses that isn't copyable. There's nothing to stop anybody else from opeing up a fast food restaurant and selling the same products as McDonalds with minimal variation. The reason people buy franchises in these companies is brand recognition. If you go in a McDonalds in London you know that they've got the same products as a McDonalds in Manchester and you know what standard they are at. People go with what they know.

Without even looking at the business idea above I know it's not a franchise I'd want to be involved in. I've never heard of the company, GJ seems to be in the same position as me, and you've obviously only just heard about them. I can't imagine many people have heard of them , so what would you actually be buying from them?

IF it's a good business idea, then I agree with GJ, I'd look to go it alone and set myself up as a rival to them. It may seem more daunting, but you'd be as well to go to the manufacturers directly rather than using them as a middle man. (I'm sure I've seen Duncan Bannatyne or the bloke who sits on the right on Dragons Den going through this with someone before when they tried to get them to buy into a franchise idea)

A quick Google of Nigel Botterill and N5 Ltd will give you more info on who is behind this. The review here says 100 people have signed up to the chocolate thing already.

Amusing typo on their site ...

By using your own colour printer to over-print the personalisation on the pre-printed wrappers you are able to provide real tip quality looking wrappers.

The site also says you get a listing on their site (premium listing with the Professional Pack) when you join, but there are no listings on the site.

This link shows a list of their agents. Thanks for your input on this guys. I can't imagine parents buying chocolate bars with personalised wrappers for kiddies' party bags, but I still think they could be a big seller as wedding favours - I hate sugared almonds! Perhaps doing it independently may be the way to go...

This company is on a genuine site esp for Stay At Home Mothers that I go on. The company seems genuine but the start-up is very high & it will take alot of hardwork to get that money becak before you can start making seriosu money for yourself.

Well I used the word scam when I first saw the site. However I must now say I was wrong to use that word.

I take the word scam to mean something that aims to take money off you in return for nothing, or something that's worthless.

I would put this site in the ripoff category. i.e. it is asking you to pay far too much for what it supplies. The idea may be good, but the startup pack is not worth the money.
  • did you buy into the company in the end, i'm thinking about doing it but a bit warey... let me know:confused:

Why don't you look into doing it yourself? All you really need to stat off is a good printer and the right paper. And some graphics software too, which you could get free.

Designing your own wrappers would mean you are not limited to their one size chocolate bar. You could make them for any size bar that you can buy.

I've looked at what you get for the money and most of it is worthless. A manual that tells you how to set up a bank account and how to plan and prioritise etc.

Do you really need t-shirts, balloons and pens for the business? Not to mention a leaflet dispenser when the site makes no mention of giving you any leaflets!

To begin with you will be selling to friends, family, neighbours, colleagues etc. and for that you only need a sample bar of chocolate to show them.
