Flm

Hi, I joined the forum to warn people against taking a loan (or in my case being a guarantor) with FLM.

My younger sister's 5 month baby got rushed to hospital recently, with suspected menengitas (given the all clear, I'm v. please to say) - however, this meant that they fell behind with their monthly payment.

FLM contacted both my sister, who says that they were "having none of it" when she tried to explain what had happened, and had said that they would be paid by the end of the month. When they spoke to me (as the guarantor), they asked twice if I could pay (I told them I could on the 25th when I got paid again), and asked twice if another member of the family or a friend could pay it. On the second time they asked, I put the phone down. My patience is great but, unfortunately, not limitless .

So your sister took out a loan, didn't pay it on time and your complaint is that the loan company made efforts to try and get payment?

Her baby being ill isn't the best news but unfortunately the world doesn't stand still because of things like this. Bills and debts still have to be paid, no matter what the circumstances.

As others have said - almost any other credit offering company would do the same ie try and get paid. They've heard all the sob stories before and at the end of a phone line how do they know yours is real or not?
  • My husband has had issues with FLM, he was persuaded (by a so called friend who lied about it being a short term thing that he could pay off in full within months) to go guarantor, and the friend has not been able to pay and my husband who is self employed had an operation and has been out of work for 7 months so far, has also not been able to pay. He has spoken to FLM and told them the situation there only response was that he borrows the money off someone (exact words being the more time you talk to me about it the less time you have ringing round to borrow the money) Firstly this is very rude and are these companys not supposed to try and help if you tell them there is no way you can pay?? also Creditors must not suggest to a debtor to either sell a property or to take out further borrowing in order to pay off the debt to that creditor. For a creditor to request you borrow more money to pay them off is basically requesting you to commit fraud as you are taking on credit knowing you cannot pay the debt back. this is taken from an advice website surely this is what they are doing!!!

This is absolutely shocking, a debt company trying to get people to pay their debt back.

Guarantor isn't just a title, there are responsibilities and duties that come with it. Both you and the OP are blaming FLM for your own (or your husband's) failure to consider what being a guarantor means. The fact the friend needed a guarantor hints at them being suspected of not being able to repay on their own, knowing this you can't become a guarantor and then complain when they can't pay and you're asked to do so.

Never, ever agree to be a guarantor for a loan unless you are happy to pay off the loan yourself.

This is what I am wondering also. If baby was rushed in, then it was a very sudden thing, and so surely they had already made arrangements to pay the latest instalment? It is not like it was a long term condition that meant that the parent was too busy with caring duties?
    Gone ... or have I?
  • I am sure im am being slightly misunderstood my concern is that this company obviously have no communication skills and are not fully trained as they should be in their field. I am merely trying to warn anyone who may be looking to use this company in future of this.
what a shame it is that on such a helpful tool such as this forum, people will post a comment to be only sarcastic. perhaps i just dont get it having such a full life with lots to do! (if you cant beat em join em!!lol)

Another case of not hearing what you want to hear so accusing everyone of not being understanding or being sarcastic. The reality is that a guarantor has a role to play and when someone cannot pay the company look to the guarantor who ahs agreed to "foot the bill" in the event of the person not being able to pay. Apparently explaining this to someone who seems to think guarantor means nothing and it is wrong for a company to approach a guarantor is sarcasm. There was no sarcasm in my post, it was matter of fact and straightforward, ahd I wanted to be sarcastic I would have said "Because being a guarantor means nothing, it's just a title you can ignore!"
