This is an old discussion and may no longer be relevant.
Take a look at the rest of our Ebay, Auctions, Car Boot and Jumble Sales forum board for forum members' opinions on Ebid and similar.
Read our 40 eBay buying tips guide for more ways to hunt down a bargain including other auction sites.
Back to Mancunian's original post...
I found this site and signed up for a cheap lifetime 'Gold' membership.
All seemed well, if a little dead of sales but then they banned me (I think) as it wouldnt let me in and I had a cross thru my name.
On reading there forum.. this seems to be quite common place.
I'm all for enforcing rules but they simply 'ban' you with no communication or explanation. Probably two people running it from there garden shed...sssoooooo professional

I wouldn't touch Ebid with a barge pole... Got scammed to the tune of £1280 and they would not do anything to assist the police catch the GIT!!
Purchased stuff from a buyer with a great feedback rating, stuff turned up really quick, then ordered a laptop form one of his auctions, unfortunatly it never turned up.. over 150 people in the same situation, did a group complaint to ebid, no joy, got the police involved, no joy....
so my advice,
stay well WELL W E L L away from Ebid..
Cheers

I've been keeping an eye on ebid for a while as an alternative to buying from ebay. I havn't joined it yet but your posts have put me off. Is the security there really bad or something?2008 Comping ChallengeWon so far - £3010 Needed - £230Debt free since Oct 20040

I notice that snowman hasnt said how he paid for the laptop.
eBid offers an escrow service through its PPPay service (like ebays paypal) or a standard non-secured payment method.
If the item was purchased via paypal then paypal is responsible for any chargeback, similarly with credit card payments etc.
If they didnt use the escrow service for that amount of money they need their head examined lol.
Security on ebid is as good as on ebay and other sites. As stated the seller had good feedback, without a crystal ball its not possible to tell they were going to turn around and scam people, lets be fair here.
ebid's standard pppay service offers no comeback if you are scammed, which sucks, but i guess they want you to pay for the escrow service. Like all auction sites the rule is to cover your a$$ and not expect others to do it for you.
I've bought and sold on both ebay and ebid, ebid is def. quieter but then its taking on ebay which has a huge headstart. Ebay has its fair share of scammers also, they are just less noticable and get mentioned less due to the hugely greater number of sellers on ebay.
Overall I've found ebid to be more sociable and the support to be more personal and helpful than ebay, but it is def slower. Hopefully in time it will catch up.
Mancunian can simply email the ebid support and ask what the problem is, this is a much more fruitfull action than just complaining. Unlike ebay they dont allow the sale of ebooks and pyramid schemes etc so if he was selling these or received 3 negative feedbacks he'd be removed. Just ask them why and sort it out.
Black-Saturn, you'll make more profit selling on ebay, on the down side you'll pay a ton more fee's too. If buying ebid can be better, if what you are looking for is there. Mostly it is more Buy It Now than bids, but due to the fact its quieter and fees are virtually nonexistant prices tend to be lower also. As I said above, if buying anywhere the sellers feedback is no guarantee, cover your a$$ and dont forget "if it looks too good to be true, it probably is!" :beer:0 -
ebid, run by 2 guys in a little poxy office in small town of Bishops Stortford, was only 1 guy, but has got a bit bigger now. I got banned back when they started out, when the good old days of the closing of yahoo autions, that I miss.
ebid = dont even visit, you dont get good sales from them and may loose money.
ebay = they advertise across everywhere, tv, radio, internet, news and I make a mint at ebay, so wouldnt trust anything else.Kind Regards

Yup, gotta agree with the negatives on ebid. They cancelled my account and my auctions (which I paid over £30 to list!) and didn't even bother to email me to tell me why!
From a selling point of view, those I did sell went for horrendously low amounts. Good for buyers, bad for sellers - though I also suspect alot of scammers hang out there too.
The pppay thing or whatever it's called isn't worth bothering with - they charge something stupid to 'verify your id' and the emails that come from ebid are choc full of promos for them - very off putting.0 -
Paladinz2K.. when i had built up a good purchasing account with the seller, with goods turning up well within stated time, i belived that a bargain from this seller with well over 2000 positive feedback would have turned up.. With over 150 others being scammed a a huge amount of emails going to Gary at Ebid... NOTHING came back from them, not a single email....
The moment someones got an issue the gits just clam up and remove your access!!!!
The site is the worst experience i have ever had with auctions and would tell everyone to steer well clear of these scam merchants.
STAY AWAY FROM EBID....0 -

I know several regular users of this site signed up to ebid a few weeks back, I am still hoping that some of them will be reporting back soon as to how they got on with the site and what sort of sales they made.
It does sound a bit disappointing though if they close accounts and don't handle queries very well.
