I got my case from TJ Hughes, was about £25 for a fairly large hard one with expander middle. I thought it was a good buy, as it's bright pink and I like cases I can spot easily coming off the carousel!0

We got a couple of Samsonite cases when we were in the US a couple of years ago - BARGAIN!
However I weighed them the other week because we were looking at weight allowances, and they are around 8kg - a big problem when airlines are reducing the amount you can take (the regional airline in the caribbean where our family live only allows 20kg a piece and charges like a wounded bull if you go over - worse than Ryanair even!)
So although the hard cases are the best in terms of strength, weigh up (!) whether you will have a problem in terms of allowances0 -
If you're in the North West, come to Bury, and visit the Antler Factory shop (Pilot Works, Alfred Street, Bury). It has a wide range of luggage- much of it made for other shops, such as M&S. Antler also makes other brands too, and the shop usually has great trial runs, samples, end of lines etc. I picked up a fab holdall with wheels and pull-out handle for about £25 a couple of years ago- it would have retailed at around £80. The shop also sells purses, handbags and brollies.
For the price you can pay for "cheap" luggage, you can get quality from the Antler shop.Won Mulberry Bag Jan 090 -
We bought a set of Samsonite from their outlet shop in the MacArthur Glen Outlet Centre at Swindon but I guess they are on all those sort of sites. As I recall it was about half price, £165 quid for 3 cases, small, medium and large and a ladies handbag sized box.0

We've just been out there and needed to get another suitcase as Virgin Atlantic cut one of the handles on one of our Samsonite holdalls when we flew out! We took the holdalls as I booked online and all the information I received said total diameter measurement was not to be greater than 62 inches! When we all arrived at Gatwick, we discovered this wasn't correct and that you can, in fact, take any size suitcase, it's just the weight they're strict on!
So we bought a big case at CVS pharmacy out there - we went to Walmart's first, but found the cases and lots of other things quite pricey there!
We paid $17.99 - about £9 for a big one on wheels!
Virgin have been written to re their misinformation and requesting a refund for the cut bag handle.:mad:0 -
Just a word of caution. Any case with a zip fastener can be opened in seconds with a ball point pen. Unless the zip handles are anchored at a fixed point, the case can then be closed, as if nothing has happened, and you would be none the wiser until it was too late. If the zip pullers are actually anchored to a fixed point on the case, it can't be easily reclosed, and the thief will normally leave it in preference to others. Had a look in TKMax today, and even the expensive cases were mostly floating zips, which is very poor.
If anyone would like to see the demonstration video, I think I can e-mail it, if this is allowed ???0 -
On second thoughts, I don't think I'll forward the e-mail, too many others on there, it wouldn't be fair, but its easy enough to try yourself anyway. Zip cases are laughably insecure.0

Even when zip handles are anchored with a combination lock as in Samsonite cases thieves can prise them open and then put them back to look as if they have not been tampered with - until the zip pullers come away in your hands when you next open the case, as I discovered on my last holiday. I had always felt that my Samsonite combination-lock cases were very secure before then.0

I had a look at my local TK Maxx, found they've got a final clearance on this week, lots of things reduced, seen very big Ralph Lauren Polo suitcases for £20!! But spent lots on clothes (Lipsy dress!) and shoes too! Thankyou! No reliance should be placed on the above.0
