Buying luggage is difficult for MoneySAves. While very cheap luggage often looks the part, its quite easily destructable and often works a bit like its disposible.
The counter to this is that high quality designer luggage is often extremely expensive. The half way house that many choose is TK Maxx (though you can't buy online), which sells last year's branded fashions at low prices.
Even if some cases are a bit garish, at least you’ll be able to spot them on the carousel!
What are your top luggage tips?

I just bought £45 worth of sturdy-but-lightweight trolley cases for £32 at Tesco (large was £25 now £20, medium was £20 now £12).
I could have got a flimsy set of 3 cases + 2 shoulder type bags for £15 (was c£30), but I don't think they would stand much airport handling.I can cook and sew, make flowers grow.0 -
I too would suggest keeping an eye on your local Tesco for when they reduce their luggage, usually about now0

I recently bought an Eagle Creek, not cheap but comes with lifetime guarantee. Lost one of the accessary clipon straps, & I was sent a new one from USA within 10 days. The guarantee covers all eventualities, ever baggage handlers.0

Have to agree about TK Maxx, I got a "hard" shell (flexible carbon fibre type)cabin bag that *just* meets Ryan Air's small cabin baggage restrictions (why can't there be an international standard?).
was either £25 or £30, would have been about £100 anywhere else (was an antler one I think)I have a poll / discussion on Economy 7 / 10 off-peak usage (as a % or total) and ways to improve it but I'm not allowed to link to it so have a look on the gas/elec forum if you would like to vote or discuss.

Few years ago I bought a couple of very lightweight wheeled holdalls - about £40 from John lewis and they have been fantastic. They weigh about 2kg and are huge, cannot remember the litre capacity but I think they have been brill.
When we went to New York we put one inside the other so we could bring lots back.
As someone who cannot pack light to save my life they have been brilliant.
The only damage that has been done was I scagged one and made a hole getting it out of the boot of the car and caught it - my own fault I was too interested in greeting the dog!Aim to win in 2013 - a holiday somewhere nice, New York break, treats for family & friends & some cash would be lovely!!!0 -
Any seasoned traveler wll tell you that there are few brands which can stand the rigours of todays air travel.
If you want a case that's going to last then only buy Delsey, Samsonite, Antler or Charlton in the UK.
Next time you pass through an airport and see some 'air crew' check out the branding of their luggage. That will give you a clue as to what you should be buying if you want it to last. Airlines only purchase luggage for their crew that lasts, anything else is a false economy.
You really do get what you pay for when it comes to luggage.0 -
I bought my luggage over a year ago now, so can't remember the exact details. But I knew I wanted Samsonite for the quality, and found some nice stuff discounted in their Outlet store at Bicester Village.
However, I went to TKMaxx after and found the exact same Samsonite case for a lot cheaper!0 -
Been to TKMax - bought 2 good quality matching cases - one damaged in first flight at the corner of the case where the piping had not been fixed properly - they told us take it back to airline and complain - asked for manager - Lady at TKMax "I am the manager" - phoned up their customer services who said take it back again - got refund on one of the matching cases. So we are left with two unmatched cases. Unbelievable!!0

I bought my 3 pieces (small, med and large) of hard luggage in three different locations - Argos (small for £25), local shopping centre Daniel's (large for £40) and local bags shop (medium for £35). They all are Revelation by Antler - a cheaper line manufactured by Antler, i.e. good quality for a reasonably good price. They all are more or less matching design and come with a 5 year guarantee, so I would say a very good deal.
Now looking for a nice and relatively cheap suit carrier for business travels, so the best I could find was Antler at TK Maxx for £70 which is a bit too much I would say, but possibly will need to go for this option... Any ideas?0
