I like Car Giant in the trips I have made there. The cars are refreshingly honest. Bumps and scrapes are rarely tidied up so you get a real picture of how the car had been treated in its short life. Compare that to any secondhand dealer where all bumps and scrapes are sprayed by local SMART outfits and flake off a few years later.

The cars at CG can be cheap. And I don't see a problem with the admin fee. It's not hidden and it's transparent and displayed on every car and on a billion signs. The problem is the customers who expect glass palace service and standards for portacabin prices.

So, you like paying, simply for the privilege of being a customer? Would you be happy for Tesco to charge you ten pounds, every time you walked through their doors?

Costco charge a membership fee. Tesco could if they wanted to. Of course it would be my own choice to shop there if they did.

Yes they do, but it is the same all year, no matter how many times I shop in there. Car Giant want us to pay for the privilege of buying every time.

And how often do you buy a car?

I don't get the problem with the admin fee! Just suck it up. You're spending £8000, how is £90 such a deal breaker? There is alto involved in prepping a vehicle, sorting paper work, chasing missing history... They don't come off the transporter with everything in a neat little package ready to slap straight onto the shop floor.

If paying an admin fee is so against your moral code, how on earth do you get through life? My bank charges admin fees. My accountant charges me admin fees. Even concert tickets have booking fees attached. If you don't like it, dont shop there. There are plenty of other dealers in town!
  • Simply THE worst customer service I have ever experienced. Would now never consider buying a car air freshener from them let alone a car.

They offered to text me when the make/ model I wanted was in stock. Then refused to take a deposit over the phone or even hold it for the hour and a half journey time. The result - sold the car before I arrived. They do not care one jot. Quickest sale is the best sale for them, no interest in helping genuine cash buyers.

I'm going to defend Car Giant here. If you want deposits and reservations then go to a glass palace car dealer. Some of the cars and service are rough and ready for a reason - price! You either buy there or don't buy.

I have to say that we were looking for a specific car and went to look at one in Car Giant. It is a most unpleasant place to buy a car, but they do have a massive stock. The car we viewed was not geniune and we left it, which I was pleased about as I really didn't want to buy from them. Yes, and I do object to an admin fee for buying a product. Just factor it into the price like everybody else. We bought an identical car elsewhere for a couple of hundred more, but in terms of condition, chalk and cheese.

I don't know why people bother with these car supermarkets, because often from what I've seen, they are not the cheapest place to buy cars. Also, a few years ago Watch Dog did a segment on one particular supermarket that I won't name, and they were selling people write-offs!! And they would only do something about a complaint, if threatened with court action.

My mum brought a Merc A class the other year from car giant. Saw it online, visited, wasnt bothered by any sales staff, went to get the keys to look inside, liked it and then took it for a drive. It was about a half mile route around the estate.

Sure ,its short but they have hundreds of customers a day especially on weekends its very busy and have lots of people to get through. If you want the longer test drive and dealer service... by all means pay thousands more at the main dealer.

There was no dents or bumps or scratches, just a couple of chips on the bonnet and the car was reduced by a further £ 400 off the website's price which was already very good. 2 years later and 20 000miles there have been no probs with car and its running great.

Part ex price was okay ish considering the car had several expensive faults which they didnt bother to check and they do try to sell you the Gard x and insurance, which was declined

So overall it depends what your after, if its snazzy show rooms, men in suits and main dealer service then then you'll pay more for it.
