Hi,
Just got a wireless router and have set it all up and everything. i got it for the sole purpose of using wifi on my phone. i will probably use it about an hour a day(well, when im in bed really).
am i supposed to leave the router on all day as it is quite fiddly to put all the wires back into the original modem.
thanks

Mine is on 24/7 as is my modem0

Mine has been on 24/7 for over 3 years. No problems so far.0

I have had a few over the years and all have been on 24/7. The only problem I had was buggy firmware (in an old model) which had a memory leak so would crash every few days. Current router has been on for a year.
Just make sure you use WPA security (and possibly MAC address filtering) to prevent passers-by or next door using your bandwidth.0 -
i use a timer, it turns off at 11pm and swtich back on at 6:30am, saves me electricity. All I ask is the chance to prove that money can't make me happy.0

Wow! That's what I call money saving! My router uses 12W of power, and a kWh of electricity costs around 10p.
So... 10p per kWh = 0.01p per Wh
Multiply by 12W = 0.12p per h
Multiply by 7.5h = 0.9p
So, you save less than a penny per night! (I hope I got my sums right!)0 -
