Haggle Down Your Holiday Costs Discussion Area

I have been finding it really hard to easily find out where the cheapest holidays are. When using a website you have to know where you want to go, I was not bothered where, just sunny and cheap! This started me thinking about the days of Teletext holidays on the TV that just showed you lists of holidays, granted the information was limited but as this article says you then had to call a travel agent to get the information and price. Problem is Teletext removed their service years ago. So after a bit of investigation I have found a mobile app that does exactly what Teletext used to do, it even looks very similar. You can download it from cheapholidaysapp.com I also found the travel agents to be open to a bit of haggling and as I was actually on the phone with them, they were keen to offer me a discount. So Tenerife 3* All Inclusive in July Booked up for £199, Bargain!!!!0

Just tried this and I can safely say it's the worse experience I've ever had with this site. None of the 6 I phoned budged.
Very poor MSE.0 -
Was the holiday only available from one tour operator?Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0

I dont want to spend 40p a minute to speak to these travel agents, i'll end up spending more on the phone bill than i'll actually save! Cant find any alternatives on SayNoTo0870. How can I get around ringing these expensive 0870, 0845, 0844 numbers?0

I'll try this! I tend to find that the amount of time I spend looking on the internet to ensure I get the best deal is longer than the amount of time I spend on the actual holiday!!!0

Just a quick tip here, don't just use big chain travel agents, often the small local ones do great deals. The one I like is my local Advantage Travel member. I guess the best way to describe advantage is like a euronics for travel agents, so you get set standards and service, but from local companies.0

I have been recently looking at tenerife as a last minute idea as i have holiday that i need to take. I looked at alot of websites and finally ended up with the same 3 this site recommends but teletext was by far the cheapest.
Tenerife was £300pp everywhere else and teletext had it at £210 with about seven companies offering similar prices so the first thing i did was google the companies this immediatley dropped the list to four companies due to some of the bad reviews.
1st company i called told me the price had changed to £270
2nd said it had changed to £289
3rd after 6 minutes on hold told me their systems were down
4th teletext direct qouted near to £270 as well.
Travel supermarket came back with £277 but you dont call to be told the price has changed.
Icelolly looked good but has next to no reviews and alot of hotels dont show details or pictures.
All in all i will never bother with teletext again because it was a complete waste of time and really wound me up.
If anyone knows and other sites that are cheap please let me know im looking to stay around playa de las americas as its central. thanks0 -
Enjoy your haggling while you can the hagglers have got us down to a only a handful of holiday companies, how many will be left by this time next year0

Companies who knock down their prices to get a sale are probably in difficulties and just need the cash flow. Thomas Cook used to match and discount and look where it's got them, they're surviving by the skin of their teeth. Everyone wants a cheap holiday, they haggle and haggle, then complain when the travel agent goes bust the day before their holiday. You can't have it both ways unfortunatley.0

Managed to get a £2800 holiday with Thomas Cook to Cuba for £2000! So pleased with the advice!0
