Endsleigh car insurance & premium credit

I have been with Endsleigh for years and upon changing my car let them know the new details. As I had paid the final instalment of my policy I was told to cancel my direct debit and another one would be set up for the new policy. I received thius confirmation on about 26th September.

I then received a letter from Premium Credit saying my new DD had been cancelled and my policy would be void. I rang premium creditand they siad to ignore the letters as they were a mistake and my policy was ok. Then yesterday Endsleigh rang to say that I was driving illegally as I had failed to respond to PC's letters and my insurance was cancelled.

I spoke to a manager at Endsleigh who said it was their fault but if I wanted a new quote it would be £120 more expensive than my original which they cancelled.

How can I be made to pay this when it wasn't my fault, told them to stick it and went through Lloyds TSB vis Greasypalm.

Anyone know who the regulatory bodies are for Insurers? This is going further as I was made to break the law and was ripped off.
I would like to thank everyone who contributed to the Ramada/Days Inn BRG thread.
