selling pick up items on ebay

Exactly! - Sorry I finished my earlier post too soon...
I actually emailed Ebay to ask how I was supposed to treat Collected items, as obviously they couldn't be 'tracked' in the same way as posted items, but they just replied by referring me to some of their 'advice for sellers' spiel which didn't answer the question - I guess because there is no answer - you just can't!
I'm looking for about £150 for my tariler tent, which is a bargain, but if I sold it on Ebay I'd have to ask more as I'd add the fees etc to the price, and I am not prepared to take the payal risk either - been 'bitten' that way before on much lower value items.....The best advice you can give your children: "Take responsibility for your own actions...and always Read the Small Print!"

Not a way round accepting paypal but I recently sold an item for collection (but only for a few pounds) and stated on the details that if payment was made by paypal, I would require proof of verified paypal address (a utility bill) before releasing the item. If the item is for a larger amount, could you also perhaps ask for photo id with signature? Could you ask for signature on collection?
The person who won my item is going to pay cash so it wasn't actually a problem for me.0

What about stating "item must be paid for on collection"
Because if you let the buyer use your computer/their laptop they could pay with paypal.
But most buyers would read it as cash on collection...;)0

Actually I have used a seller's PC to pay via PayPal on a couple of occasions!
The first was on viewing a car, and we used the Buy It Now function there and then to avoid other buyers nipping in there...
The second was when I turned up to an obscure Welsh village with no cashpoints in it (and I clearly wasn't organised enough to already have the cash!).
So you'd be perfectly within the rules to put that on your listing and let the buyer make the assumption, in my opinion Mortgage | £145,000Unsecured Debt | [strike]£7,000[/strike] £0 Lodgers | |0 Mortgage | £145,000Unsecured Debt | [strike]£7,000[/strike] £0 Lodgers | |0

If you read some of the threads on the ebay forum even believing themselves to be entirely within the rules has not stopped ebay removing all the auctions where they believe any form of soliciting for a payment other than paypal is going on. To make it subtle enough for a buyer to get your drift just means your competitors will read the same and report you.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. See my post about non collection after someone paid Paypal when wanted cash on collection0

i recently put something up for sale and stated 'no paypal - cash on collection only' on my advert.
less than 24 hrs passed and ebay removed the ad due to breach of policy (not accepting paypal)
i immediately re-listed the item, this time stating "10% of final total to be paid via paypal, remaining balance to be paid upon collection."
this seemed to work as it was never removed again by ebay. it seems that accepting a small portion of the balance via paypal both keeps the fees down and avoids this ridiculous rule!0

Other people on ebay discussion boards have had their auctions pulled for similar statements.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards.
