What do I do now?
I hope someone here can help me as I am just getting frustrated and upset and don't know what to do.
I have recently submitted a claim for DLA.My reasons for my claim are arthritis and depression/anxiety., the response of which I have received today saying I do not qualify.
The reasons for this are:
- I can walk over 100 metres at a normal speed in a normal manner - this isn't true though I explained on my claim form I can only walk short distances and at a very slow speed because I am in too much pain. My legs don't bend very well and go stiff so my walking tends to be like a waddle with a limp, that is the only way I can describe it.
- You need help for comfort and reassurance not because of anxiety or panic attacks or fits, dizzy spells or blackouts - again this is wrong i put on my claim form about my panic attacks and how if I am on stairs/lifts/escalators or in crowded places I have panic attacks and feel like I can't breath and go dizzy. My nan helps me to regulate my breathing.
- You do not need help to use a cooker use kitchen tools or carry and lift safely. - again this is wrong and i told them on my claim form that I don't have very good grip and can't lift things, so lifting pans that have things in them is dangerous aswell as causing me pain, i struggle to try and put things in the oven or get things out because I can't bend down
- You do not need help with your personal care from another person for a significant portion of the day or frequently throughtout the day. - as already mentioned i struggle with grip so my grandma has to help me do things like my hair, she also sorts out my medication, i put that i didn't need help on a night for this but i dont think i explained myself very well i put no because i was looking at my tablets as 4 times a day and never thought that this included the ones i take in the evening.
What do I do now?
You never know how strong you are until being strong is the only choice you have.

Well the symptoms you describe don't seem consistent with anxiety to be honest.
Not being able to lift or having a good grip does not come from anxiety:cool:0 -

Appeal. You have to put what a normal day is like, but explain that your condition varies. I would also keep a diary to show how it varies.
Have you tried contacting Community Legal Advice on 0845 345 4 345?0 -
Hi There
A supportive GP is really what you need. Can you switch to another doctor in your practice? Do you see a CPN because of your MH...you mention a Physio...would they write a supporting letter for you?
You really need medical evidence to receive DLA and a supportive GP is really essential.
Do you receive any support from a care worker etc?
