Doesn't matter if you own the car or not, if you are the main driver, ie do the most miles, then this is still fronting and could lead to the withdrawl of insurance in case of accident. If both parents already have cars, this will be quite obvious to the insurer.

I second the adding parents as named drivers though, as this can legally reduce your premium, other than that plenty of phoning around may help, especially using the yellow pages rather than just the main names as per the comparison sites.

    Good luck

DD is currently looking into insurance and has had a quote from QuinnDirect via Confused.com for £672 for TPFT on a 1998 Clio 1.2 Grande.

Realise insurance in much cheaper for the girls (assume at that price you are male) but that is with me added as a named driver.

As someone who passed their test 25 years ago, I cannot believe that I think £672 is good

If there's other cars in your household, it might be worth checking out Admiral's multi car policy.

My husband and I switched our car insurance to Admiral and saved £100's when we insured 17 yr old daughter in her Polo with them as well. But, you can only do this if all the cars are registered at the same address.

Go for a basic 1.2 litre or something to get the cost down on the insurance.
