just cancelled virgin media internet, should i go for o2?

Options
hi all

im thinking of signing up with o2. gonna grab one of the PAYG sim cards for my mum so we qualify for the £7.50 per month for the 8 meg service. from what ive read on this and other forums, they seem to be pretty good - service and what not...

can anyone advise me please.

on another note, is there anyway i can find out what max speed i could achieve with them?. im not sure i would achieve 8 megs but even if i dont, the service will be less than half of what im paying with virgin media

p.s. apparently im 1.99 miles away from the exchange. any idea what speeds i could expect to get from the 8meg service?

Hi, try the mapping engine in Samknows.

    http://www.samknows.com/broadband/index.php

Click on the 'How far are you from your local exchange' button and follow the instructions.

  • give o2 a call and they'll do a line check and tell you, apparently i can get 20+, but these checker websites say 7 max...

I agree, give O2 a call. The checkers said 2meg for me, the man at O2 he say about 3.6 meg - I actually get between 3.2 and 3.6 meg depending on the time of day.

Maybe they are being deliberately pessimistic, if he had said certainly sir you will get 25mbps and you only got 512kbps you'd be well pee'd off.
Is the O2 service LLU or via BT?
