IMEI for my old Nokia 1100
Hi,
The display on my phone just went kaput and luckily I haven't recycled my old Nokia 1100 yet. I've been reading about how to unlock it as it's got a Virgin SIM and I need it to work on my Orange SIM.
I'm supposed to be able to get the IMEI number by entering #06#, but it's not working. When it says "enter" that code, does it mean type it in AND THEN PRESS THE CALL BUTTON?. That's what I've been doing, (four times now) and the display says "Requesting" for five or sIx seconds and then says "Request not completed".
Is there any other way of getting the IMEI? The packaging is LONG gone! There's not enough credit on the phone to make a call. Could THAT be stopping me getting my IMEI?

*#06# - you need the * at the beginning.
Numbers starting with a # are network requests, which is why you'll see it go "Requesting...". The IMEI is internal to the phone, doesn't require hitting the network, and will be shown instantly.0 -
Look underneath the battery where the model number of the phone is.
The IMEI will start 35xxxxxxxxxxxx if the phone was manufactured for use in the UK.
Hope this helps xxLoan-£3600 only 24 months of payments to go!!!

Thanks both of you. Must need to get my eyes tested, never saw that *.
OK - situation now is that I have successfully unlocked the phone. It said "restriction removed" or words to that effect. So then I took the Orange sim out of my broken Sagem phone and put it in my old Nokia, but now it says "Sim not valid". The wording originally was slightly different, I think it was "Invalid sim".
So is there something else I need to do? Does this mean the SIM is locked too, independently of the phone?
Or: When I was going through the unlock procedure I had taken the Virgin sim out, so there was no sim in it. Should I have had the Orange sim in the when I unlocked it?
Sorry to be so clueless at this, never did it before.0
