"Golden" Numbers / Requesting a specific number

These golden numbers (the numbers like 07777 6666 xx, 07654 33 22 xx etc) that the 4 main SP's charge plenty for are all very well for those who have the money and want a number thats easy to remember.

But, how does one go about requesting a certain number. Say, for example, that I wanted the mobile number 07424273533 (or 0-R-I-C-H-A-R-D-L-E-E) if that was my name (which it isn't!)

Are the phone companies still likely to charge you lots for it (even though it isnt one of their golden numbers) because they know you want it?

Thanks in advance for any help/info on the matter.

Rjcb23: If I remeber correct, its an outside company that the operators go through to get the number for you. And depending in the number, will dictate your price. If you connect on a network, then they give you anumber, then the operator will pass you to the outside company who will contatc you, think it takes about 14 days in all.

Thing is, your just a number in a phone book, you dont need to remember your number or any of your friends unless yrou a taxi firm or something, so shelling out money for a number can be expensive. Think cheapest the outside company do is close to £50inc VAT

Mobile numbering ranges are allocated to each provider by Ofcom. No outside companies are involved in the allocation of these numbers.(However some dealers buy them up and, will sell them to you at a price.)

Networks have realised what they are worth and tend to take them out of the normal numbering range, and will sell them to you, and change your number at a price.Only https://www.orange.co.uk and https://www.easymobile.com advertise this fact. You can get good ones slip through occassionaly particularly on o2 payg online.

I am surprised that you of all people ECO 21 did not know Orange sold them :D .

The numbering range 07424 will not be allocated to a proper mobile as they all start 077/078/079.

    i was really lucky, I got a number which was 07742 101001

( that isnt the correct number, but goes to show you the pattern)

I had it on a free sim from O2, and also got the 5 consecutive ones so all my folks have them too
