I used to bank online with Barclays, but stopped after a while. But started using it again and was more hassle trying and kept forgetting my passcode and could never find the 100 (felt like it) digit number I had to keep putting in on the website and have now successfully locked access to my online account lol.

Er... you guys that have said nationwide is so great.. I'm confused!! I've just opened a flexaccount and I need my sort code and account number... this doesn't appear to be anywhere on nationwide's online banking.. They star it out!!

Where can I find it? They never send anything in the post on time and I want to start funding it ASAP so I can get rid of this god awful cash card!!

I like Barclays, but that said, I've no experience of running a current account with another bank (online or otherwise). I've had online savings accounts with Halifax, NSI and Sainsburys, and they do what's required.

One gripe with Barclays is that there is no way of changing my email address with them - I emailed them and they replied saying I had to put it in paper writing. I'm pretty sure I haven't got round to that. But other than promotional offers there's no reason why they should email me.

The PIN Sentry doesn't bother me. I ordered another one to keep at work, which arrived promptly, with the six quid coming out my account a few days later.

It still allows you to withdraw money abroad without extra charges; and if later for some reason you want to have a cash card only Flexaccount, you might not be able to get it.
As for the account number - mine is the same; you might have to call them and see whetheryou can get it that way.
By 'get rid of' I mean run the account well for 7 months and then get upgraded to a debit card!!

Your account number is the same as what? :)

Both HSBC and Barclays offer account options with good online banking facilities.

HSBC is very secure, to the extent where you think it’s excessive sometimes but better to be to secure than not secure enough. :)

Barclays takes some setting up, and I have heard stories of people waiting a number of weeks for verification pin numbers to come through the post.

Your account number and sort code should be engraved on your cash card and will certainly be printed on your statements. As soon as your first statement is due, you can view a pdf of it via on-line banking: you look at your flex account and then click where it says full statement.

And no, they don't tell you your account number over the telephone -- I've tried and been refused.

I like Nationwide, but I do think that Smile offers a better on-line banking service.
