new gas customer not billed in 4 years!

When i purchased my property it had a capped off gas supply.I then fitted gas central heating and eon (formally powergen) fitted a new INTERNAL meter in may 2004 at my request.

Since that date i have had no gas bill from my energy provider.

They have failed to bill me or request to read the meter until today when I received a telephone call and a request for the meter reading. (I was at work and am yet to get back to them)

I was wondering where I stand as a customer. I am happy to pay what I owe but at the same time EON have failed to read the meter or bill me hence I am due a big bill with the compounding issue that Gas prices have increased hugely since 2004.

Any advice appreciated

They should only be able to bill you for a max of 12 months back, So if your account has been unbillable for 4 years you are looking at 12 months on there standard tariff,

As the rules changed last July your supplier can now only charge you for 12 months consumption. Hopefully you've been putting money aside during these 4 years? That way you can wipe the slate clean.
