I didn't think it was a joke Marty! I was just questioning whether, as someone who has never used a Mac and isn't a computer buff type, my brother would take to having something that's got such a different way of operating?? I've never used one either - although I think they look great and would love to try it out - so I have no experience to draw on.

Hi Michelle, they're very easy to use. There's an Apple Store in Buchanan Street in Glasgow; pop in and have a play around.
And as has already been mentioned, if he's looking to play games Mac really isn't an option.

Why do you say that? They're certainly not dedicated gaming rigs, but they're more than capable of running games.

If he's into Dell, then try the XPS 420, for about half the price of what you've originally listed (and an Imac)!!!

I'd say it was the superior option anyway, irrespective of price. It's much more future-proof.

PC's with ultra-small cases or with everything chucked into the screen casing like the XPS One are, hardware wise, basically laptops without the portability. As such, you lose a lot of the flexibility and upgradeability that you'd get with a standard PC, and £ for £ they just ain't as powerful, either.

EDIT: And as has already been mentioned, if he's looking to play games Mac really isn't an option.

    Hi Nick,

He's actually never had a dell before so it doesn't specifically have to be a dell - he's just been looking at dell as they're generally thought to be pretty reliable and reliability is key after the last computer he had. I'll go and have a look at the model you've suggested. I'm sure he'd consider other brand names with a good reputation if they had a better computer on offer. Thanks for the information.

    Regards

    Michelle

Thanks Marty - I'd forgotten about the big Apple store on Buchanan St. I think I will go and have a look and demo in there to see the differences for myself.

I picked up a Dell XPS 420 in January when all the offers were on, great unit, well impressed with it. I actually work in the industry and have run multiple projects with Dell kit but this is the first one I have actually had myself, having usually done the self build option. But I must say I have been very impressed with the XPS.
    Cheers
