Seller having a laugh

I recently missed the end of two auctions for childrens clothes that had vaguely attracted my attention. As any ebayer knows, childrens clothes are very hit and miss when you are selling them - unusual to get much interest or high price unless they are new with tags and a designer label. So, I emailed the seller, said I'd missed the end and would she still like to sell both of them to me.
Original auction price: 1.99 each with 2.00 postage each = 8.00
So, I was expecting a discount on the postage with perhaps as much added to the auction price. However she emailed back wanting £12 for the lot LOL. For a couple of pairs of 2nd hand baby pyjamas and a couple of sleepsuits - she must be joking! Or she said I could wait as she'd be relisting them in a few weeks!
I think I'll wait.... heh

Just wanted your opinion on this. Recently I watched and auction for a rare item (that I have ) that ended up at £38.53. The second bidder had bid up to £37.53 and this was excluding postage costs and they lived in Irish Republic, so I think thats more expensive than the £2.00 postage quoted?
So I emailed them re: the item and they were quite terse saying I could have a deal provided I did not relist but did it on BIN. So I worked out the postage Airsure with signature (you dont want them saying its not arrived) and said "how about" £35.00 including the £7.00 postage. He refused and said he was only prepared to pay £30.00 all in. I did not bother to go ahead and said I would leave it.
Now I am not sure if I was being greedy or he was! I can appreciate that if I put this back in auction I may only get a tenner for it. It all depends who wants it at the time. Just your opinions as I am new to EbayGrocery Challenge £139/240 until 31/01

larmy, if I have followed your post correctly then you have broken ebay terms and conditions.
If you contacted under bidders of someone elses auctions (and apologies if I have misread your post) then that is considered spam and if you get reported it will either place a warning on your account or if you have any previous warnings, result in a temporary suspension.
Just put your item up on an auction and it will find its own level.

Bluep, I think you're right, that seller's having a laugh! Secondhand children's clothes are so plentiful you should have no problem finding a better deal than that on eBay. It would be against eBay rules to buy them from this seller directly after the auction closed anyway. They would have to be relisted for you to buy them permissibly. You'll probably notice that e-mails sent via ebay in such circumstances normally include a warning like "if this is an offer to buy or sell an item which has not been won on eBay, don't do it and report this e-mail" or words to that effect.0

Oh yes, I wanted her to put them up as a BIN auction or similar on ebay so I could buy via there - that way we are both as "proctected" as we can be (laughable I know!). Heh. I was just quite suprised at her expectations of their worth. I'd have bought them via auction for the £8 all in all as all of the stuff was vertbaudet and they are nice quality clothes, but this has put me off her as a seller.0

Soolin maybe that message came across not how I was trying to convey it!
The auction had ended a few days before. I did check with someone on here and they said they often got e mails when people had seen them bidding on an item they were planning to list , and it was ok :eek:Grocery Challenge £139/240 until 31/01

Contacting under bidders of other peoples auctions is not allowed and if you are reported may get your account suspended.
There are pages of conditions about spam on ebay, here are some relevant ones:
http://pages.ebay.co.uk/help/newtoebay/stopping_spam.html
"Spam: General Guidelines
Spam is unsolicited, commercial email. Unsolicited means the email is sent without the recipient's permission. Commercial means the email is related to selling a product, service, or opportunity.
For example, if a user sends you an email describing a product or item they're selling (whether or not it's on eBay), it's considered commercial email. If it's sent without permission, it's unsolicited and considered spam."
or this:
http://pages.ebay.co.uk/help/policies/rfe-spam-non-ebay-sale.html
"Some examples of outside such offers include:
Using information obtained through eBay to offer to buy or sell a listed item outside of eBay.
Cancelling a listing to sell to a buyer who became aware of the item through eBay.
Ending a listing early to sell the item at a higher price to the winning bidder.
Offering to sell an item to a bidder in a Reserve Not Met listing.
Offering to sell duplicate or additional merchandise to underbidders. "
Also, check any recent emails you have received via the ebay system. On the right hand margin there is a box that allows the contact mail to be directly reported to ebay for spamming, or offering to deal outside ebay.

I am with soo on this one!
I have had people contacting me from other auctions and I say no straightaway as most of them are scams!! I sold something and someone had contacted all my 18 previous bidders and said the item was up for sell again as a second chance offer when it wasn't!
just list yours seperately!Angel

Thanks for letting me know! Obviously the person I asked was wrong. Yet another lesson learned. So you know the original poster contacted the seller who's auction she missed was not sending unsolicited mail? (Just wanting to get things clear) I hope that ebay dont find out now - worryingGrocery Challenge £139/240 until 31/01
