What Ideal Standard CS told me!!

I have been having problem with a new WC suite. I have tired everything and called the plumbers several times and he came to the conclusion it is either condensation or a defective cistern. It is not the seal as we have looked properly.The cistern seems to be sweating as soon as I dry it clean, it comes back again. After spending a lot of money, I have decided to email Ideal Standard and asked for a replacement cistern. I was told I should send the cistern to the manufacturer for inspection and if it is found to be faulty then I will get a replacement one. In the meantime, how do I cope with a toilet without cistern? I am very crossed at CS suggestion. Anybody got any idea what I should do? Thanks

Are you sure it's not cold water in cistern in a warmer room causing the condensation? e.g. bathroom after shower/bath has been used. This does occur in my bathroom, however, not all the time.
For flushing without cistern, if you do have to return to makers, just pour a bucket of water directly into the pan. Depending what's in the pan will dictate the speed at which you pour if you get my drift!

If you can take the cistern back to Ideal Standard they should provide you with a replacement/refund if it is faulty. They should not be asking you to deal with the manufacturer. (see Sale of Goods Act FAQ below)

CS at Ideal Standard tole me to return the cistern at my own costs and only if they find it is faulty I get a refund. I wonder whether it is worth the trouble besides I cannot buy the cistern only, I will have to buy the whole wc suite. Thanks

I would imagine it's condensation, and perfectly normal. The water in your cistern is colder than the air in your bathroom (as per above post usually after bath/shower), leading to 'sweating'. Nothing to worry about - open your window/door to cool the air.

Im a plumber and its probably condensation , unless its dripping on the floor I wouldnt worry about it .
Whoever bought the cistern should simply take it back to the merchant for an exchange if its faulty, cisterns are available seperately.

I get this condensation problem mainly in the winter when the water in the loft is cold and the bathroom is warm or I've had a shower. If there's a definitive line where the condensation stops and it matches the level of the water in the cistern then there's no problem. I found that the water inlet weeped a little on my new cistern and solved it by putting a new fibre washer in some warm water and allowing it to expand a little before fitting it.

This is really bugging me. I do not understand why I should suddenly have problem with condensation. E.G My cistern toilet was cracked and a friend fixed a new one (he had a spare one)as an emergency until I buy a new bathroom suite. I had no condensation problem with this new cistern. Suddenly when I got my new one, I am having problems. It's just two droplets of water forming at the base of the cistern (middle) and then eventually drop on the floor. This is annoying me a lot. Is there a test I could do to see whether it is really condensation or a faulty cistern? The bottom of the cistern seems to be sweating but I do not understand how the two droplets are formed as I have put some thick towels behind the cistern to absorb the moisture. It takes about 15 mins for the droplets to form, when I go to the toilet, I cannot stop myself checking the cistern. Guess, will have to buy one, pity I only need the cistern but will have to buy the whole unit. Thanks

Simplest answer I can give is to buy one of the blue cistern blocks for your loo. If the dripping water is blue (use white kitchen roll as the blue will show up better) it's the cistern.

Hold on, just to check, were you given the cistern by your friend or did you buy it?
