Now I know I dont post here ever (but I do read) can I post this simple question instead of starting a new thread? In the current climate ~ credit cruch/ressession. Is it a good idea if one was to leave their job and not have another one lined up? I work in a cafe in a warehouse for little above minamum wage (£750 for 38 hours after tax). I have endless qulifications and want to do some open uni courses but alas work always comes first. Now I have been sick and tired of working there and being quietly bullied I just dont want to go anymore, I thought it was my depression but after getting help with that I feel more worse than ever. This hasnt crossed my mind only tonight I have been mulling it over for months. I am unsure if I can go part time because my supervisor said I couldnt (havent checked with hr though), and to be honest I dont even want to be there. Now I have no debt (except an argos card which has other familys 0% deals on) and have around £700/£800 in savings. My 'essentail bills' are around £230 per month. Also when I finish work I have to pay back a £200 loan (no interest) from my employer.

So would it seem silly/stupid to leave a 'normal' job now with no job to go to and no answers to applications so far?

Oo PAP, big decision. Personally I'm very cautious and wouldn't but there do always seem to be a lot of PT minimum wage jobs around so maybe it would be ok. you have got a few months essentials saved up though so that would give you a some time to have a look around, can you have a look around now and see if there's much available?
Sorry not much help but I'm a woose!

PAP, I'm probably not best qualified to advise you here, but I can tell you what I believe.

I think life is way too short to be stuck in a job that you hate and is making you ill. You're a lovely person and deserve to work somewhere you would be happy.

I left a well paid job (I was the main breadwinner of a family of 4) due to similar circumstances. I definitely made the right decision.

    Good luck hun x

  • Thank ss, no its helped kinda. I have been looking and applying but I have been applying for things like admin etc (which I ahve no experience in so that may be why I have had no replys). There ar plenty of min wage jobs around though but not in places I would like to work but if the worse comes to teh worse its a job... which to kick me in the teeth is what my mum said when I took this job 3 years ago and I told her I wont like it. At that time tough I was in debt and on jsa... a stop gap she called it
  • beanie ~ doc wont sign me off, he says it will make me worse
spud ~ Thats how I feel, I have never liked it but it was a means to an end and I hated being on jsa. The problem is am I shooting myself in the foot? I wouldnt care but I dont want 'family' looking down on me in three moths/when all my moneys gone, saying see you shouldnt have left your job etc etc. I have said many a time when I get up in teh morning and dont want to go to work I should leave. I got to that point 4 months ago

PAP, I was in my job 19 years, and loved it until a change of management made life completely unbearable.

We had a family conference  and the decision was made that I would leave. I left with nothing lined up, and somehow managed to walk into my current job without even applying for it

It could have been a terrible decision, but luckily it all worked out OK. 2 years on, and even though we dont have as much money coming in as we did before, life is great.

Only you can make the right decision for you hun :grouphug:
