I am a newbie on all this. So please help:

I have a brand new PAYG o2 sim card - I haven't yet activated it yet.

So I followed Muhamid's instructions and opted for call50.

Now, I tried calling this new sim and i get through (how comes as I havent yet activated the card?).

Secondly I cannot make any calls from it.

If I dont put any credits in at all ever, then how long will I have the O2 line active ie for how long can I call it?

Will I get the 50xnet minutes even if i dont top-up. I just opted for it now so I will see what happens.

will be activated within 48hours.then you can start calling.

i have few about 5 months old sims which i'd just registered but didn't put any credit but still all sims are working.

Also yes you will get 50 xnet minuts without topup.Thats the point to put this thread.

well i gotta give a big thumbs up to you m8, i tried this and it worked for me , i just tried another sim so waiting for another 50 x network minutes, cheers m8.

so will you get 50cross net minutes each month for 3 months?

What happens after that? If I dont top up then will I still receive incoming calls...if so how long for because surely at some point they will stop the sim if i dont ever top-up....wont they?

You need to make a chargeable call within 180 days of the previous one.
