PS3 Hard Drive

Try LamdaTek.
I've just this afternoon ordered a laptop hard drive from them (SATA, 2.5") and they were about the cheapest I could find with a good reputation.

500 GB Hitachi HTS545050KTA300 Travelstar 5K500, 2.5", SATA 300, 5400 rpm, 8MB Cache, 12 ms £146.88 @ ScanCheers

my mistake forgot it has to be 2.5 but it doesn't need to be 5400 you can use 7200 without problems i know because mine is running one
You may have a 7200rpm drive running fine, but not all drives are created equal - some heat up much more than others. Samsung's 3.5" SATA drives are fairly cool, but other manufacturers' drives heat up much more. The same will be true for 2.5" drives.
Just a warning to anyone considering a 7200rpm drive. You'll probably not notice the performance increase, and at worst it'll overheat, and dead hard drives make the most horrible noises. They say it's genetic, they say he can't help it, they say you can catch it - but sometimes you're born with it0 -

I'd only replace like for like really, then there'd be no issues if for any reason it needed to be returned under warranty and they tried to blame it on the drive.0 -
The laptop drive I bought from LamdaTek this afternoon (see above) was a Hitachi 200 GB, 7200 rpm, 2.5", SATA unit.
The price, including next day delivery and VAT, was £77.03 which I reckon is very reasonable. They sell for more than that on eBay!
Hitachi claim this drive uses no more power, and generates no more heat, than its previous generation 5,400 rpm drive.
I've been running an identical Hitachi, 200 GB, 7200 rpm drive to this one in my other laptop (Apple MacBook Pro) for a year and that seems a reasonable claim to me, from my own experience.
I've been using it every day and I've had no trouble with it whatsoever. It makes everything involving drive use (including booting the computer) substantially faster and I like it a lot. (Which is why bought another one.).
I've no experience with Play Stations but they are larger than a laptop and I doubt that heat from one of these particular drives would cause any problem.
Great drive at an excellent price.

Then of course there's this one:
http://www.lambda-tek.com/componentshop/index.pl?prodID=B83629
that's £20 cheaper.
Personally I don't think having your games load half a second faster is worth an extra £20.0 -

That seems a little on the expensive side when you bare in mind that you can get a 320gb drive for £60....0 -

I was simply passing on the information in case you (or anybody else) wanted to opt for a 7,200 rpm drive.
If somebody knows of a reliable but cheaper place to buy high quality 7,200 rpm, 2.5" SATA drives of capacity greater than 160 GB I'd much appreciate it myself if they'd post it.
I have, incidentally, run a 250 GB, 7200 rpm, 3.5" Seagate (PATA) hard drive in my Sky+ box for several years, now. There's never been a heat (nor any other) problem with it and navigating its directory is a lot snappier than using the standard 5,400 rpm drive.
