How to transfer number from 3 to O2?

I've got my PAC code from 3 and I want to transfer it onto an O2 PAYG sim card (them ones you get for free).

How do I go about doing this? I will probably port it back to a new 3 contract in a few days so is there anything else I should know?

thanks

transfer it to virgin they r quicker at giving a PAC out again, twice on o2 my port was delayed @ thier end, after messing the port in to o2, I had to wait a further 7 days how much compensation did I get?

not a penny!! just as well the tariff was great cos the customer service is 50/50
If I helped or saved you money - Thank me
If I helped you spend some money - spank me

No, just ring up o2 PAYG and say you want to transfer your existing number from 3 to o2 payg. They'll ask you for your existing 3 mobile number, PAC code and the mobile number of your o2 PAYG sim you have (possibly the serial number for it as well).

From what I've observed most networks do take about 7 days obviously depending on how busy they are so it could take longer. I have heard of o2 taking longer than this so it may be best to try another network that isn't likely to be as long as o2. Virgin sim's are around £10 from what I've observed but Orange do sim's for £1 from their online shop here so I'd recommend going via that route.

Realistically you are looking at a minimum of 2/3 weeks to transfer your number from 3 to another network and back to 3 again.

I didn't know they could pick and choose who they say no to. Number Portability is a regulated facility by Ofcom and the networks have to provide it (though they can charge if they want to) and you can read more about it from Ofcom's website here which also provides more info on mobile number portability here.

There was nothing I could see that meant they could pick and choose who they will accept porting requests from but it could be possible that an exemption was put on 3 for some reason or another.

I took my number from 3 across to virgin in Sept then back to 3 in same month. Last week my friend took number across to virgin had no problem.

I have checked with Virgin and the info i read was out of date.So they will accept a port.

But recieving networks dont have to, if they dont want to,its not compulsory.Losing networks have to issue a pac,but recieving networks do not have to accept them. Some new contracts i have seen say in the t&c you cant port your number.
