Switching Virgin B/band

Currently with virgin media 3 for 1 bundle package - my 2MB B/band is costing £19pm and i just want to find a cheaper stand alone B/band service because i want to retain my phone number. and therefore have just phone and TV.
Virgin was originally Telewest cable - all the B/band providers state "not available to cable users"- therefore can i get B/band on its own ?
I'm sure i can get stand alone unlimited d/l B/band for lot less but i don't have the dreaded BT line.
If switch is possible is it starightforward or does it involve New Providers engineers reinstalling new b/band cables , drilling , dust , furniture removal etc etc

You can get broadband internet via cable, telephone line, mobile phone network or satellite.
If you want ADSL broadband via a telephone line then you will require a BT line.
Some ISPs may offer to absorb the £125 BT will charge you for the installation.
You will, of course have to pay BT line rental.
Cable companies are closed networks, i.e they don't allow any other operators onto their system..That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
I think looking at other posts it's worth haggling with Virgin0
