Can I ask BT for a refund?

Options
I am moving house and my new place does not currently have an active BT line. The line will be activated on Mon 21st Jul, at which point the phone + internet will stop working where I currently live.

Now, the switcher man said the line would have to be active for 2 days before they could order the broadband, and it would be a further 5 working days before it was working, can I request a refund for this week I won't have broadband? I am not sure if that would be reasonable or I just sound like a scrounger... But it's a good £6 I am spending on not having internet for that week.

Also, they gave me a new number and I am a little bit concerned they might accidentally not cancel my existing line and I will end up paying twice, is that silly? Will they definitely cancel my current line? They said I would be starting a new 12 month contract for the phone but the internet would continue as it is.

What do you think?
