Ullapool Tesco

As a further note on the Stornoway store - Tesco stated as soon as they announced they had bought it that they would intend to fit in with the local ways and that the store would NOT be open on a Sunday - quite right too.
For those that bang the drum for the anti-supermarket brigade - it's easy said if you live somewhere with lots of choice. When you are somewhere that doesn't have much it's not so straightforward. If you lived where we stay when we're up in the Hebrides (North Uist for the Hebrideans among you) you'd go a long while hungry if you didn't buy any veggies until you'd found a greengrocers, trust me! When we're there we shop at the Co-op and the independant supermarket at balivanich, but with the best will in the world it's a sizeable round trip to either, and this in a place where petrol and diesel are also priced extortionately high.🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

I just saw this and we are going back for a holiday near Ullapool tomorrow!! Can't wait and I do agree with the people saying that you need to shop for groceries somewhere... We stay on an organic farm so we buy our fruit and veg from her, but we supplement it with things from the supermarket. Unfortunately, she doesn't grow wine or ale yet, nor pasta...0

There are various wineries and breweries dotted around the Highlands
And there's a spaghetti forest on Skye, but that's another story...:A0 -
The Tesco in Ullapool is pretty small but not too bad. It is the largest shop for about 40 miles despite that.
I agree that Ullapool could sustain a larger store. There aren't many independent food retailers in the Town unless you count shortbread shops!! There is also a massive rural catchment area who use Ullapool as their high school town and for swimming etc. Food in these areas is exorbitantly expensive and fresh fruit can be hard to come by at times. Add to that the rip off petrol prices and people need the same cheap shopping opportunities that the rest of us take for granted.0 -
I popped into the Tesco at the beginning of August before getting the ferry back to Stornoway, just to compare the Tesco in Ullapool to the Tesco in Stornoway. The Ullapool store is small, but it had a good number of lines and some of which are different to what is on offer in Stornoway, the Bergen bread being one that I noticed.
Tesco in Ullapool is right next to the huge free-stay car park, so I would reckon that folk will park there rather than in the Tesco car park if they're visiting Ullapool?0 -
We always use the Sommerfield (now Tesco) car park to leave the car before we get the ferry over to Stornoway
The Ullapool Tesco store would have done a roaring trade this weekend with the Loopallu festival being on.
The co-op has a monopoly in the Highlands, I for one will be glad to see Tesco stores come to the area. We will hopefully have one down in Skye within a year or two as well!
I'd love to see an Asdas in Inverness tho - there is definately too many Tescos stores there.0 -
Think that planning permission's been granted for a Tesco in Portree. Along with a Lidl too, lucky folk!0

I think we can safely say Ullapool Tesco will be extended in the not too distant future!0

can you use money off coupons there if you don't buy the product like with other Tescos does anyone know?0

Unfortunately it was a bit of a con.
The company that applied and got the planning permission spread Tescos name about to try and get the permission.
They now apparently are going round all the supermarkets to sell the land and permission to any supermarket that wants to buy it!
So not necessarily Tescos.0
