index funds in an ISA?

Hi.

As the FTSE plummets my interest in buying some index funds has returned.

Where can I find out information on which index funds are available and their management costs?

I'm looking to hold most of these long term but may wish trade a proportion of them based on market conditions, so for those an exchange-traded fund (like a US SPDR) might be better to avoid any short-term dealing penalties. Where can I find information of those?

I believe that I should by preference hold these in a shares ISA. Does that limit my options in any way? What happens when I sell and go to cash?

Any thoughts and link most welcome.

Thanks,
