DOes anyone know what the contrast ratio is for the 42" technika one from tesco ? I cant seem to find it out anywhere!!
Thanks0 -
the model on the website which is £200 more is 800:1 but im not sure if this is correct
(http://direct.tesco.com/q/R.203-9723.aspx)
The £399 and £599 one isnt FULL HD, or so it says on the site
There is a full HD one on there for £399 37" but the contrast ratio is 700:1
you really need one at least 8000:10 -
i know people will prob start kicking off again but i dont really care, im going to give my 2 cents anyway...
There is a reason why they wont be putting the contrast ratio on. If the model £200 more is 800:1 the one £200 cheaper is going to be lower.
If your looking for a 42" for under £400 you wont find a better one than this.
Ive seen them in tesco and they do look good, but they was just displaying still images. If i was to buy one id get them to put a dvd on so i can see the response time to make sure the ghosting isnt too bad.
If you can wait 2 more months and put another £300 towards a tv u can get a excellent 42"... but if this is a your budget and need a 42" get this one.0 -

Not bought one myself, so can't comment on quality.0 -
There is a full HD one on there for £399 37" but the contrast ratio is 700:1
The website is wrong - the contrast ratio stated on the box is 1500:1. On top of that, the TV has an option for dynamic contrast; I don't know what the effective dynamic contrast ratio is.
My two penn'orth on contrast ratios is thus: 8000:1 will be necessary if you like watching in a darkened room. If you don't need the full home-cinema experience, you will likely be fine with less. Or, of course, you could lessen the effect of a low contrast ratio by putting a light behind your TV when the room's dark - which will be better for your eyes, too. This is moneysavingexpert, after all - and £5 on a lamp to put behind your TV is cheaper than spending £300 extra on the TV.0 -
Sorry Markie but you've been sucked in by the marketing departments, hook line and sinker.
Firstly the human eye can't detect the great range of light levels such high contrast ratios would produce!
Secondly there aren't any ISO standards for measuring contrast ratios: It has been known for manufacturers to take their tests say without the plastic casing/flex attached. Which brings me nicely round to:
Thirdly and most importantly, in order to achieve the maximum contrast ratio (and again, this is often how manufacturers test) you require a ZERO LIGHT environment. ie - pitch black. As soon as there is any light arriving at the screen, the blacks will not be black. Simple as that.
More important with LCDs anyways is the backlight bleed. You can't get this from any spec sheet anywhere, it requires personal opinions. Plasma doesn't suffer this shortcoming, thus is the superior technology. And hence the bigger price tag.

Projectors - ignore contrast ratio (good background info)
