You really should be buying a tv with a good contast ratio. On the tesco website it says 800:1, id never buy a tv lower than 10,000:1
(Contrast is the ratio between the white and black parts in an image. The larger the contrast ratio of a display device, the greater is the difference between the brightest whites and the darkest blacks a display or projector can show.)

Also a response time of 6ms of lower

I got mine set up and it's great. The picture quality is good and had no problems so far (although have been switching it off at the wall now so it doesnt burn my flat down!)

me and my gf brought one of these (technica jobbie) last friday and its pretty awesome, £100 cheaper than other 42" tvs we were looking at and looks ok too!

picture quality and sound are fine and having HD and freeview are added bonuses, playing wii has just become sooo much better!

The contrast ratio on the 37" 1080p TVs is 1500:1, so I wouldn't trust what the website says about the 42" TV.

Your figure of 10,000:1 will be a dynamic contrast ratio - those figures mean very little compared to the real contrast ratio of the panel.

    No. I just purchased a Panasonic 42" - TH-42PZ80B for £700.

    30000:1 Contrast Ratio
    1000000:1 Dynamic Contrast

Im sure its an good tv but when your spending hundreds of pounds on a tv sometimes to worth putting another couple of hundred for that little bit more.

Dont waste you time Markie, no matter how bad the TV, if its cheap, someone will post "Ive got one its great" if their happy, thats all that matters.

Yes, and that's a plasma TV - you're essentially saying that you'd never buy an LCD. Fair enough, but if that's your point of view I wouldn't say you're the best person to provide a detailed critique of an LCD TV, and your comment really isn't helpful in a thread about one.

I wouldn't advocate increasing your budget by 75% to get better quality either - if people are looking at a thread about a £400 TV, they'll be after a £400 TV (and, if they're looking at a thread about an LCD TV, they'll be wanting to buy an LCD TV). It doesn't so much matter whether the bargain TV is perfect; the question is more along the lines of "is it a dog?", and you can't tell that from a spec sheet.

After heavy discussion my daughter has pointed me in the durection of a 37" as the 42" is just too big for our room. Suggestions please as to where, what to buy.
