It is expected that gas and electricity prices will rise in the next few weeks with most companies probably waiting to see what BG's intentions are. Have you considered switching to a fixed rate, capped rate .. if you qualify, have you considered one of the social tariffs etc.

I have just got a fixed rate with N Power until Aug 2009. Only £40 a year estimate higher than what I pay now so I am happy with that if the prices do go up as predicted.

I emailed Atlantic who are my current suppliers to give them a chance to give me a fixed offer but they never replied.

I've only just started taking an interest in this again. I read reports of possible 40% increases this year.
I'm currently on BG click energy 1 (I think, or maybe 2).
Service was crap, but prices quite low and finally sorted out the handover.

    My annual usage is:
1480 daytime units (4.05 per day)
4300 night units (11.8 per day)

Hence total of 15.8 units, with 70% at the night rate.

I've just looked on USwitch and it reckons the Scottish Power fixed until August 2009 would cost £10 more per year than the current deal I have.
    Sounds good to me.

    Should I switch?

Right, I've looked up the various tariffs in detail and it looks like the Scottish Power offer would save me £85 per year. I've based this on the unit rates inc VAT, the break point for moving from higher to lower daytime rates and the night time rate.

    Comparing

    Scottish/ Click1 / Click5

    Day1: 22.17 / 26.587 / 31.874
    Day2: 9.98 / 10.6 / 11.06
    Units per year at rate 1: 900 / 500 / 500
    Night: 4.6 / 4.586 / 4.586

    Annual cost: £456 / £541 / £593
    Happy chappy
