Nokia likely - PLEASE HELP

Hiya,

I am sorry to have to post this, but after checking the websites and our own site, I cannot work out what is what is best.

Husband is wanting a nokia phone (he says he is not that bothered about the make but we are not that techy, and we know nokias, plus they seem to have good battery life)

He is wanting to make about 100 texts a month, and about 150 mins calls. He wants a camera, and if there is a chance, radio and the facility to listen to MP3s.

We don't want to be tied into a contract really. He has seen an advert in Tesco for the nokia 6300 (you buy it at £80) then if you top up £15 a month you get 500 free texts or 150 minutes but it seems like an either/or.

I really think there are better deals out there.

I hope someone can help.

thanks
Sal x

    Hi,

I've been doing a bit of research for myself for a new phone.

I've had Nokia phones before but found them to be a bit poor with regards to their camera. I currently have a Sony Ericsson K750i which i've had about 3 years but keeps crashing on me. I absolutely love it and am now looking for something similar. I hardly use my phone for calls but do - do a lot of texting. I'm on pay as you go with Orange, probably put in £10 every 6 - 8 weeks so like yourself don't want to be in a contract as it really isn't worth my while.

I am going for the Orange's own phone called Berlin. It's £29.99 has scored really well in lots of different reviews.

Originally I couldn't decide between this and the LG K290 so phoned my local Orange shop and they told me the differences which is why I'm now going for the Berlin.

The only catch with it is that you have to buy top up with the phone but when I spoke with the shop, he said that as I was an existing customer, just come in with my old sim and I don't need to get the top up.

On the other hand if you do go for a contract http://shop.orange.co.uk/shop/paymonthly
do so via Quidco as they are offering a massive £150 cashback deal!

    Hope that helps x

p.s. Phone used to be £50 so at £30 reckon this is a bargain. http://shop.orange.co.uk/shop/show/handset/orange_berlin/detail/pay_as_you_go

OH likes Nokias. He has the 6300 (again) from Virgin. Free with 150 mins x net and 150 texts per month. Month line rental is £12 for 18 months.

See phones available here. I have the Samsung U600 which has a 3.2mp camera and is a great phone.

Many thanks for responses. Went for the 6300 due to OH's refusal to contemplate another make of phone. Stangely, due to a glitch/grabbit on the grabbit forum http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=1031203 where you can get £13 off I mananged to get it for £58, pre-loaded with a tenner rather than £71. It's not my original post but I have posted the link as others may want to use the glitch.

He wanted it to have tesco as supplier because if you top up £15 in a month they give you 500 free texts. I think there are plenty of better deals out there (esp when you count in quidco) but he doesn't want to be tied. I suppose at the very worst it has cost us £48 even if a better deal walks by tomorrow (as they often seem to with phones !!)

    thanks again
