Co-operative Bank, Abbey, Halifax - in that order lol.

I have all three, they all issue Visa Electron cards (these are pretty much accepted everywhere online / offline nowadays).
  • I should imagine he can do a bit better than those? It's not like he's a Bankrupt.

You might be restricted to a Basic bank account though.

The best one I'd say is Yorkshire/Clydesdale - Maestro.
Then I'd normally suggest Lloyds Cash account (Visa), but obviously that's out!
Then there are a few that do Solo. Natwest, RBS...

Isn't it strange that people who say that they have had troubles with their banks and poor customer service, are the ones who incur bank charges and miss payments on their credit cards?

Obviously not everyone is quite as perfect as you.

Why is it evrytime I come across one of your posts you are either being negative or insulting.

    Ignore....

    Pretty accurate though eh?

I run bank accounts with AIB and can say that I have never had cause to complain, possibly because all the accounts are run properly. Last month I had a £6K visa payment and had forgotten to make a transfer, leaving the account overdrawn for 24 hours - the payment was honoured, and I was charged £20 and had a nice polite message left - now I suppose if I was someone who wanted something for nothing then I might try and see if that charge was unfair, but seeing as I get really good service from AIB, I think that they deserve a little bit for my mistake.

Run any account without care, and of course you will be unhappy with the charges imposed, and thus the service.
  • I see you point Captain.

In fact in all my years of banking (25 years) I had the perfect banking record. Banks loved me.

Then I was made redundant and went bankrupt.

    Hero to zero. Bankrupt.... yes.

Never paid anyting late....well yes! Dont think that counts for much now though.
  • Hi Lloyd's tsb will give a basic bank account and it comes with a visa debit card . I opened mine when i wasn't on the electrol roll.
Also try Citibank i have a account with these and it has a visa card and cheque book
Last but not least natwest will give you a basic bank account with a solo card .
I have/ had all these accounts and I have had quite bad credit history .

Can I just say that Lloyds are crap. Switched from HSBC as partner banks there in past year and we have had no end of trouble. The latest of which is they haven't sent us new cards and they have stopped both our olds ones leaving us with no access to account over my birthday weekend...Great! And Branch is not open on Saturdays.

I have always done everything required and the only charges I have had with them were because of their mistakes...with HSBC no charges for 6 year....just goes to show the different of service Lloyds are providing.

If the bank made a mistake they should put it right.
Care to elaborate Mrs to be?

Perhaps you could put it on a new thread.

when Switching accounts they didn't cancel a standing order as agreed and charged me. Eventually after a week of being told the Branch had to sort it out I went in and it was refunded.

They recomended a Platimium account to us and I agreed (felt a bit pressured to as find them quite hard sale) as they agreed to not charge until August for the service. Received new Cards to use. Cut up old ones. They have since charged me £10 for service and It thought a month for it to be returned to account after I pointed it out.

After a couple of weeks decided benefits would not equal the charges we would need to pay so left instructions for partner to phone and cancel. When he said he wanted to cancel they persuded him to opt for Gold. Next day I phoned and downgraded to normal account. told me to ignore Gold cards that were on way and cut up. New cards would come out on account.

Thurs...Card refused for Petrol...said corrupt Chip.. wasn't too bothered as have money in account and just thought faulty card. Ordered new card over phone., explained we had downgraded and never recd new cards..no probs they said and ordered new cards.

Went into Branch Friday to take some cash out explained new card on order (or so I thought) Partner tried to use his card late afternoon....declined.

Phoned up and very unhelpfully said new card order referred to Branch on THURSDAY to authorise as we had not used Gold cards and Platimum ones cancelled. Explained whole story he was not interested and said only branch can help me and to go in. Explained Branch not open on Saturday and could he arrange for them to contact me Monday as I am working during day. Said no I had to go in. Also there is now way I can access this account over weekend.

This is just the final straw in the whole switch over which includes them not setting up to send statements, marketing phone calls when opting out of marketing and constantly being asked when we phone up if we could like home insurance....we already have it with them!!!

As for the OP original question sorry but I haven't got much real advise except speak to the customer service team at local branch and explain situ. sorry if I have taken over your thread with a bit of a rant. But to the people who said it is always people who miss payments that complain about customer service no its not I have money in the account and they still treat me like crap...Rant over and happy Birthday to a skint me!!!
