again thanks for all your rpelies...
the offers/bonuses happen daily, so its not really feesable that she can go to the library or internet cafe, everynight after work etc (plus she is wayyyy to lazy lol)
i think VM stays the same even if u do a release/renew or even if u unplug it....
odowdchr: when u say NIC (is this a network interface card?) how will this allow me to change my IP? and how can i use a different router? as this one was suppiled by VIRGINMEDIA.
am i allowed to have two broadband subscriptions for the same house? i mean would it work or would they interfere with each other?
ive heard that sky broadband does change its IP ADDRESSES and a simple switch off and re-boot of the modem after 5 mins or so will help pick up a new IP?
Thanks for all your help0 -

No, you can't have two separate broadband connections on one phone line - it's not possible without getting a second phone line. But if your VM connection is delivered via cable, you ~could~ have a separate bb connection on your phone line.
However, if you can bear the delays, you could also use dial-up on a PAYG basis on a phone line that is already delivering bb, and that would have a different IP address. But dial-up is annoyingly slow once you're used to bb...0 -
If you have a newish model mobile phone you can connect to the internet with it and therefore get a different IP.
If thats not possible a good proxy site is hidemyass.

Your ISP probably assigns an IP to you with a lease - it will stick with you even if you reboot your router. But if you shut down your router for the length of the lease then restart then you may get a new IP. try leaving it off for a couple of days.
I'm surprised a website blocks based on IP as many people (especially those at work) have web connections via proxy servers that use a single IP address for everyone.
It's more likely they're blocking you based on a cookie. Have you tried clearing your cookies or using a different web browser (which will store a different set of cookies)?
If that fails then you can always use an anonymous proxy (as someone above mentioned). But if the site is blocking IPs already then they're probably blocking the popular anonymous proxy servers too.
eg. http://www.zend2.com/ or search anonymous proxy on google.0 -
Do you know the brand/model of your router? If you can find that then you can probably search the internet to find how to login to it (usually via a web browser or telnet) and issue commands to get a new IP address. This can be done on many routers, but it depends if the particular router you have allows it.0

thanks for all your help...
fwor...how can i access dial up then? is it just a case of running a wire from a phone line, and then disconnecting the router and plugging the same wire into the phone line?...who still offers dial-up with free hours?
patrick, thing with most proxy's are that they bounce you too sites all over the world, many of these sites are to uk customers only, and even if u can find a UK proxy alot of websites are aware that your using a proxy (well so ive heard)
ive sent you a pm with the model number of my router, if you can find any info id really appreciate it!
thanks for your help0 -

No, you don't need to disconnect the router. Broadband and dial-up should (in theory at least) co-exist on the same phone line - the router plugged into the Data socket of your microfilter and the dial-up modem into the Phone socket.
You want the moon on a stick, don't you! I doubt anyone does, but I haven't actually looked. Probably easiest would be to check what VM offer in terms of dial-up. When I was with BT a few years ago, my bb login was also valid on their dial-up service, though I haven't checked if that's true for my current ISP....who still offers dial-up with free hours?0 -
These must be some pretty amazing competitions!
Fancy sharing them in the competitions forum?0
